You Can Run

Chapter 25

Shane's pov

I felt something warm against me and i just thought it was joey. I then started to smell something and i heard wolf whimpering. I sat up and rubbed my eyes, i saw nothing but red blazing flames around the bed. Wolf was whimpering and scratching at the door trying not to get caught by the vicious heat.

Shane: Joey, JOEY WAKE UP.

Joey: What is it?

He sat up and he saw the fire. We got out of bed and coughed as the smoke gathered on the ceiling. The scent entering my nose was purely vile.

Shane: Follow me.

I held his hand and we ran around the flames just barely and my vision was becoming blurry from the lack of oxygen. Wolf howled and we made it to the door, i tried to pull it open tbut the knob wouldn't budge. I rammed my shoulder into it and joey was trying to somehow smother the fire. It wouldn't break and i ran a hand through my hair.

Shane: The window.

Joey: Shane, we'll die.

I gripped his hand and we tried to run but the fire got larger. I held joey close and we moved to the bathroom. We suddenly heard a banging on the door and it flew open fanning the flames in all directions. The entire house was ablaze. Alex ran into the bathroom and reached his hand out.

Alex: No questions and you live.

We get up and run throughout the house trying our hardest to not pass out. We ran to rose's room and tried our hardest to get the door open.

Joey: I'm going for sunai and maria.

Shane: YOu're not strong enough.

He turned away and ran across the house to their rooms as we continued with rose.

Joey's pov

I made it to maria's room and i pounded against the door trying to dodge the flames. I should not be conscious right now.

Maria: HELP ME....I CAN'T BREATHE.

Joey: I'M COMING FOR YOU.

I by some miracle kick open the door and she runs out coughing. Some of the ceiling falls in and a piece hit my arm making me scream. I wiped my tears and ran to sunai's room. We bust down her door completely and i pick her up. Wolf was trailing at my heels and i'm surprised he hasn't tried to run. That's a normal dog instinct but maybe he's different.

I carried her to the door and she finally can walk herself. Shane, rose and alex were coming down the stairs when part of the ceiling fell and caused the flames to get bigger. We all fell back and my vision was getting blurry. I heard a whimper and i sat up to see wolf.

Joey: WOLFIE.

i went to run towards him but shane caught my waist as i furiously tried to get to my trapped and hurt puppy.

Shane: Joey, we don't have time, the ceiling is about to break.

Joey: LET ME GO.

He pulls me outside and i bite his arm. He lets me go and i run to wolfs side in the house. He was caught under a metal beam and i couldn't push or lift it off.

Joey: Don't worry, i-i'll help you get out.

He whined and tried to free his leg and i felt shane tugging me back as the fire got closer and closer to us. The entire house was in a roar of fire and smoke, i wasn't gonna last much longer.

Shane: JOEY IT'S COMING IN.

Joey: LEAVE ME.

I shove him away and i heard the ceiling creak. I heard it begin to cave in and i laid on top of wolf as i felt the heavy structure plumit on top of me and my shaking dog.

Shane's pov

I got out of the house as the roof caved in and i screamed as i heard it hit the ground. I went to run back inside but alex tackled me.

Alex: You're lucky to be alive, you're not risking your life again.

Shane: JOEY'S IN THERE, I NEED TO SAVE HIM!!!

Alex: He's probably dead, just calm down.

Shane: NO...NOO HE'S NOT DEAD YOU LITTLE BITCH!!!

He held me down and i cried furiously as i thrashed and kicked. Soon a line of fire trucks pulled up to my house and they all got out.

Man: Is everyone out here?

Rose: No, there's a man buried under the rubbel in there.

Man: We'll do our best.

Three men ran inside and i finally blacked out.

Man's pov

This is by far the biggest fire we've had this year. I swear to god people who start fires are just careless around a flame.

We ran through the rubbel and we dug in it until we saw a torn shirt and blood. Looks like we found him. As the other men worked with the debis i noticed the fire engulfing the stove.

Man:GET DOWN.

There was a big blast and believe it or not, the fire got bigger. We quickly pulled off all the beams and metal getting to the man completely. I lifted him and it felt like literal dead weight.

???: M-My dog.

Man: We'll get him. We're gonna take you to the hospital alright?

He passed out and i took a deep breath getting him out of the house. We also got his rather large dog and we got out of the house as they began to spray the hose. I wiped the ash off my face and my rough fingers grasped onto my necklace that my wife gave me.

It really does keep me safe, it's my good luck charm.

Maria's pov

I am slowly panicking but i'm managing to somewhat hold it together. Rose is crying and so is sunai, alex is trying to keep shane down and joey is possibly dying. This is all my fault, if i would've just stuck to the plan none of this would've happened.

Yes shane would've been in jail and joey would've been dead but we all wouldn't have had to go through this emotional pain so much. I'm not saying i'm gonna succeed but i'm not saying that i'm gonna fail. I will somehow someway make this right with everyone.

But first we need to get through this bump in the road.
