The company was in much better spirits in the morning, they had a small breakfast (only one to the disappointment of Pippin) and continued on only stopping a couple of times to rest and have a quick bite to eat.

The terrain became rough and rocky again and they soon spied a large rocky outcrop on top of a hill,

“What is that place?” Frodo asked

“It was once a watchtower called Amon Sul. It’s abandoned now and they call it Weathertop. We will camp there for the night” Strider explained

The Hobbits followed Strider as he led the way, but Mariliel felt uneasy. She couldn’t help but feel that something bad would happen if they stayed there she was sure of it. She ran to catch up with Strider,

“Strider!” she called out, he turned to look at her and was momentarily struck by how much she looked like her sister at that moment, running towards him with her dark hair flying out behind her and her fair skin

“Mister Strider, what is it?” Sam asked

Strider turned to look at Sam, “Nothing, keep going we’ll meet you there” Sam nodded and continued after the others. By then Mariliel had caught up,

“Strider” she gasped, slightly out of breath, “We can’t stay here. I feel something bad is going to happen”

“Like what?”

“I don’t know it’s just a feeling” she said

Strider rolled his eyes, “Look around Mariliel where else are we supposed to camp for the night. We don’t have time to find somewhere else before night falls!”

Mariliel knew he was right, Wethertop was the only place they could stay for the night. But she still didn’t like it.

The Hobbits looked  around them, they were standing in what they guessed was a courtyard or something. There were only a couple of walls left standing, Frodo walked over to one and collapsed against it,

“Mister Frodo, are you okay?” Sam rushed over concerned

“Just tired Sam” he replied

The sound of footsteps echoed and Strider appeared carrying a bundle,

“These are for you” he dropped the bundle and four short swords, perfect sizes for Hobbits, tumbled out

“What are these for?” Merry asked picking one up

“Just in case” Strider replied, “Stay here, I’m going to look around”

“Where’s Mariliel?” Frodo croaked from the floor, but Strider didn’t hear him. Frodo tried to keep his eyes open but they were just too heavy for him to try and keep open.

Frodo woke with a start, the smell of smoke in his nose. It had become completely dark He looked around and saw the outlines of Sam, Merry and Pippin gathered around a camp fire cooking what appeared to be dinner.

“What are you doing?!” he cried jumping up, “Put it out you fools!’

“Oh that’s nice” Pippin exclaimed

A loud screech, which they now knew to be the Nazgul pierced the air. They ran to the edge of the tower and saw five Black Riders approaching.

“Run!” cried Frodo

They picked up their swords and ran up some stairs to the top of the tower. They stood back to back in the middle of the tower, swords pointed out ready to defend Frodo.

Suddenly the Nazgul appeared from the shadows swords pointing up to the night sky, surrounding the Hobbits, slowly closing in on them.

“Back you devils!” yelled Sam and went to attack the closest one but was thrown aside, the same happened with Merry and Pippin

Frodo was the last on standing, “Mariliel! Strider! Help!” he cried dropping his sword and backing up until his back hit a pillar.

He pulled out the Ring from his pocket and slipped it on. His vision changed, he could see the Nazgul clearly now, they looked like ghostly Kings. The leader reached out to Frodo and he felt his hand with the Ring on move up of its own will. He quickly pulled his hand back, the Witch King thrust his sword into Frodo’s shoulder and tried to reach for the Ring again.

The King was suddenly struck in the shoulder with a flaming arrow, pulling his dagger from Frodo’s shoulder. He quickly pulled the Ring off and let out a screech he didn’t think he was able to make,

“Mister Frodo!” Sam cried rushing over with Merry and Pippin hard on his heels

Strider was fighting sword to sword with the Nazgul, while Mariliel was perched on top of a pillar shooting flaming arrows at them. One by one the Nazgul ran off their black robes aflame,

“Mariliel help!” Sam called from Frodo’s side

Mariliel jumped down from the pillar and ran over, “He was stabbed with a Morgul blade” she said as the Witch Kings sword dissolved in her hand.

“Can you help him?” Strider asked behind her

“I can, but I don’t have the right ingredients with me” she stood and turned to him, “We need to get him to my Father. Now”

Strider picked up Frodo and put him over his shoulder, Frodo let out a little whimper, “Let’s go then”
