Frodo saw nothing but a white light, then slowly an unfamiliar face appeared before him. The only features he recognized was the pointed ears and flawless skin that distinguished him as an elf.

“Lasto beth nin. Tolo dan na ngalad” (Hear my voice, come back to the light) the strange elf commanded him.

Frodo opened his eyes that he wasn’t even aware were closed, he was lying in a large, very comfortable bed in a large room. On one side the windows were facing a magnificent waterfall and beautiful gardens.  He smiled as he saw Gandalf sitting in a chair nearby casually smoking his pipe.

“Where am I?” Frodo asked, his throat felt dry and scratchy like he hadn’t used his voice in a while

Gandalf puffed out some smoke before replying, “The house of Elrond”

“Why weren’t you at Bree to meet us Gandalf?”

“I was… delayed. I’m sorry” Gandalf took another puff of his pipe and looked off into the distance as if recalling a memory

“Gandalf…?” Frodo sat up slowly in the bed looking concerned

Gandalf was snapped out of his thought as Sam burst into the room, rushing to Frodo’s bedside

“Frodo! Bless you, you’re awake!” he cried embracing him, Frodo happily returned the embrace.

“I was so worried about you, we all were” said Sam turning to Gandalf,

Gandalf chuckled, “Thanks to the swiftness of Mariliel and Arwen and the healing skills of Lord Elrond you are still with us today.”

Frodo looked around the room just realising Mariliel wasn’t there “Where is Mariliel?” he asked, a bit disappointed she wasn’t waiting for him to awake

Gandalf sighed, “Talking with Lord Elrond”

Mariliel had changed out of her travelling clothes and into a light blue dress that reached the floor. Her dark hair was out of its braid and left out, flowing down her back and a small circlet in the shape of vines and leaves was nestled on top of her head. She was perched on a chair in her Fathers chambers and watched him as he paced angrily back and forth.

“I told you specifically not to leave Rivendell, and what do you do? Leave!” he boomed

Mariliel didn’t speak a word, she knew her Father wouldn’t let her get a word in edgewise until he had completely vented out his anger,

“When you left in the middle of the night I was so worried, I had scouts go out looking for you. Even I joined in on the search but you had just completely disappeared” he kneeled down in front of her and cupped her face with his hands, “I thought the prophecy had come true” he whispered

Mariliel’s eyes started to become glassy as she tried to hold back her tears, “You know I never meant for you to worry, but me being on this quest is essential. I want to help the Ring-bearer with his burden. I want to help with the destruction of the One Ring”

Her Father stood up angrily, “Going on this foolish journey will be the death of you!”

Mariliel stood up as well, “At least I’ll die knowing that I helped stop the darkness coming! Unlike you who cower behind these walls watching while others do all the work!” she yelled, angry tears streaking down her face

“You don’t know anything” he whispered as Mariliel stormed out of the room.

Mariliel stomped her way through the halls, she was sick and tired of her Father trying to control her life. She had been confined to the halls of Rivendell for majority of her life, ever since her Father received a prophecy while he slept. Mariliel was snapped out of her memories by the excited cries of four now very familiar voices.

Quickly she wiped the tears away and turned the corner to see the Hobbits hugging and laughing loudly, Frodo in the middle of it all. Frodo looked over the heads of his friends and spotted her standing alone. He broke away from the others and walked over to her,

“Thank you for bringing me here” said Frodo, “I would probably be dead right now if it hadn’t been for you” he looked at the floor slightly embarrassed

Mariliel knelt down to Frodo’s height and hugged him tightly, “That’s quite alright” she said into his ear. Sam, Merry and Pippin came over too and joined in the group hug,

“What’s for breakfast?” asked Pippin, they all laughed as Mariliel lead them to the banquet hall.
