Marillel paused in a moment of indecision; should I go and aid Boromir? Or do I go and protect Frodo? Another horn blast confirmed her choice and she changed course and ran in the direction that the horn sound came from. Boromir must really need help if he needed to use his horn, Marillel thought as she weaved through the tress.
Suddenly she stumbled into a clearing swarming with Orcs and in the middle of it all was Boromir. He was swinging his sword around with deadly precision, knocking down all Orcs in his striking range. Marillel spied an archer taking aim at Boromir’s back, but before the Orc had even pulled the string taut he was falling backwards into the dirt with Marillel’s arrow sticking out his neck. Boromir finally saw Marillel on the edge of the battlefield,
“Protect the little ones!” he called gesturing to some trees before turning to take down another Orc.
After taking out a few more Orcs Marillel ran over to the trees that Boromir pointed out. Behind them she found Merry and Pippin with swords raised poised to attack,
“Marillel!” Merry cried relieved, lowering his sword
“What happened” she asked
“We were looking for Frodo and then suddenly there were Orcs everywhere!” Pippin explained, “And then Boromir was here and blowing that horn of his and telling us to hide… Look out!!” Pippin pointed behind Marillel at two Orcs that had appeared,
“Run!” she yelled, loading her bow and killing the Orc closest to her and quickly loaded a second but the Orc was approaching faster than she anticipated and she had to dodge out of the way to avoid being trampled. Quickly spinning around Marillel kicked the Orc hard in the back, sending it sprawling in the dirt. Before the Orc could get back up again Marillel shot her arrow into the back of its head.
Looking around she couldn’t find where Merry and Pippin had gone, looking to the ground she tried to follow the Hobbits footprints but they quickly became meshed together with the large footprints of the Orcs. The forest seemed to grow quiet and still again now that the fighting had moved away from her position. Shrieks sounded from uphill and Marillel turned and dashed towards the sound loading another arrow as she went, her last one she noted.
To her horror Marillel arrived just in time as a massive Orc shot an arrow into Boromir’s stomach adding to the two that were already sticking out of his body. She watched in slow motion as Boromir fell to his knees, sword and shield falling from his grasp. The Orc prepared another arrow getting ready to make the kill shot, Marillel didn’t even realise that she had yelled out until she saw that the arrow was now flying towards her.
As fast as her reflexes allowed, Marillel twisted out of the path of the arrow but it still managed to lodge itself in her shoulder. A cry of pain escaped her lips as she stumbled backwards from the force of the impact. Slipping on a tree root, Marillel flailed her arms around trying to regain her balance but the arrow sticking out of her shoulder hampered her efforts and she continued falling backwards bashing her head on a rock and knocking herself unconscious.
Boromir slowly moved his head to the direction he heard Marillel’s cry and saw her sprawled at an uncomfortable angle not moving with an arrow sticking out of her, he tried to grasp his sword that was lying nearby on the ground but the arrows piercing his own body made it impossible. He looked back at the Orc standing in front of him with bow loaded pointed at his head, closing his eyes Boromir accepted his fate as punishment for trying to take the Ring from Frodo.
A battle cry sounded as Aragorn sprung from the bushes sword raised, closely followed by Legolas and Gimli. Caught by surprise the Orc never had a chance of protecting himself from Aragorn’s blade that easily sliced his head off. Relief washed over Boromir as he realised that he had been given a second chance, he would have toppled over from exhaustion but Aragorn caught him before he hit the ground,
