It was cold, very cold. Marillel had never been so cold in her life, it was always pleasantly warm in Rivendell and through her travels she had never made it up to the mountains. They had been walking for about a day in the snow, Gandalf was in front leading the way and carving a path through the snow making it relatively easier for the others to walk in the snow. She and Legolas had no trouble with the snow, their light footsteps making it easy for them to walk on top of the snow.

There was a dull thud and Marillel turned to see Frodo being helped to his feet by Aragorn, she walked over to them,

“Are you alright?” she asked

Frodo didn’t reply, instead he reached to his neck where the Ring was fastened around his neck. A look of panic spread across his face as he realised that it wasn’t there. Looking around in the snow Marillel spied it twinkling in the sunlight, as she went to retrieve it Boromir reached it first picking it up and looking at it intently. A look of wonder appeared on his features, he seemed captivated by the Ring.

“Boromir” Aragorn warned quietly

“It is a strange fate we should suffer so much fear and doubt over such a small thing…” his voice was oddly soft, he went to touch it with his other hand

“Boromir!” Aragorn said again more firmly this time

Boromir jerked his head towards Aragorn, snapped out of his trance,

“Give the Ring back Boromir” Marillel commanded

Boromir slowly walked back down towards Frodo, holding it out for him to take. Frodo snatched it back and put the chain over his head. Boromir smiled and ruffled Frodo’s hair like he was a child, then started walking back up the slope again. Marillel looked at him through narrowed eyes, her mistrust of him growing even more.

They were now trudging through a blizzard, Frodo glanced up ahead and saw Marillel and Legolas walking atop the snow with ease. The snow was almost taller than he was, Gandlaf was ahead creating a path for the Hobbits, but it was snowing so hard that the path quickly filled up again.

Through the howling wind Frodo thought he could hear a voice speaking in a strange tounge,

“There is a fell voice on the air!” cried Legolas

“It’s Saruman!” replied Gandalf

There was an almighty crash that echoed all throughout the mountain pass, Frodo looked up and saw gigantic boulders falling down directly towards them. As quickly as he could, he flung himself as close to the mountain wall as he could. Marillel was by his side making sure he was okay,

“He’s trying to bring down the mountain!” she called to Gandalf, “We have to turn back!”

“No!” he firmly replied, stepping away from the mountain wall he raised his staff and started chanting in a commanding voice, “Losto Caradhras, sedho, hodo, nuitho i ‘ruith!” (Sleep Caradhras, be still, lie still, hold your wrath!)
