Alex was there in his car. He was wearing a light gray t-shirt under his sleek leather jacket his dad had given him. His hair my pushed back and gelled slightly. I got in and we drove down to Main Street.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"It's a surprise." He winked.
He went down a main road in the middle of nowhere. We pulled up to a small campground where there was small lighting and a picnic set out. The sun was setting and it was the perfect romantic place.
We got out and Alex took my hand and we sat on the picnic blanket. There was chocolate covered strawberries and white chocolate covered pretzels with mini chocolate chips. There were margaritas and cake.
"You're going to make me fat..." I joked.
"It's okay I will still love you." He said. We ate most of the food and took a walk.
We were walking in silence for 10 minutes before Alex heaved a sigh. I started to worry that he was going to break up with me.
He turned in front of me and took my other hand.
"Listen.....we are doing great but," he said and got down on one knee.
My heart stopped. Was he proposing?
"Allyssa, will you do me the honor...........of tying your shoe?" He said with a straight face.
"W-what?" I said with tear welling up in my eyes.
"Let me tie your shoe. It killing me. I don't want you to fall." He said.
I slowly nodded my head and he proceeded to tie my shoe. When he finished, he stood up close to my face. He brushed my lips before saying:
"Wanna see a magic trick?" He smirked.
"S-sure." I said. A little spark of anger showed in my chest. 'Why is he joking around like this?' I thought.
He moved his hand behind my ear and pulled it away slowly. Alex then got down on his knee again. He was holding a pink lady with a diamond ring in the center petals.
"Allyssa Grafton, will you do me the honor of.....being my wife. I want to be with you forever." He said.
That's all I took. I started crying and saying yes so many times.
