Ok I know I haven't updated in a month and I'm really sorry but this is my first free weekend in a month so here's an update now.
I do not own gmw or Romeo and Juliet
Maya POV
"So, Romeo and Juliet. It's said to be the greatest love story ever told, but is it? Do you think it's even love?" Harper asks the class. I look around at my friends and Riley raises her hand.
"No, Juliet was thirteen and her parents didn't seem like they loved each other, so how could Juliet even know what love is if she's never really seen it before." Riley says.
"Yeah," I say, "Juliet couldn't have loved Romeo. You can't love somebody else if you don't love yourself."
"Interesting, Maya, why don't you think Juliet loves herself?" Harper asks me.
"Because she says so," I answer, "In act three scene five I think, when she tells her father that she doesn't want to marry Paris. Lord Capulet basically asks Juliet if she is proud to be a Capulet, and she says that she is thankful, but she can't be proud of something that she hates. That would mean the Capulets, which would also mean her, because a Capulet is all she's been for her entire life."
"Nice catch Maya," Harper says, "But what about Romeo, was he in love with Juliet?"
"Maybe, but I think he was just desperate." Lucas says.
"Why do you say that?"
"Well at the beginning of the story he was talking about this Rosaline girl and then when he met Juliet he didn't even care about Rosaline. I think he just wanted a girlfriend, and if Juliet wouldn't have been at the party he would have found someone else." The bell rings right as Lucas finishes. We all get up and head out, because English is our last class.
"Maya, Riley," Lucas says, "Farkle and I have a surprise for you."
"What?" I ask.
"Well if I told you then it wouldn't be a surprise now would it? Come on it's a half hour drive." He says.
"But what about homework?" Riley asks.
"Riley it's friday, you can do it tomorrow," I say, "let's go." We go out to Farkles car and head to this mystery place. When we're about five minutes away Lucas and Farkle make Riley and I put blindfolds on. We park somewhere and the boys help us out of the car. I get out and immediately hear children's voices. I take off the blindfold and see that Lucas and Farkle have brought us to a carnival.
"A carnival? This is great you guys." Riley says. We go get tickets and then we go in. Lucas and I don't want to do what Farkle and Riley want to do so we agree to split up and meet at the ferris wheel in an hour.
The line for the ferris wheel isn't very long so we get on pretty fast. It's a big ferris wheel so it fits four per compartment. I'm sitting next to Lucas and across from Riley. They all talk and I just sit and look at the setting sun.
"What's wrong Maya?" Riley asks me, noticing that I'm the only one not talking.
"Do you really think kids whose parents didn't have a happy relationship can't have a happy relationship?" I ask her.
"No why would you think that I think that?" She responds.
"In English you said that Juliet couldn't have loved Romeo because her parents didn't love each other. Do you really think that?"
"Maya, Juliet didn't know what love is because she's never seen it," Riley says, "Not only because of her parents, but during this time people didn't get married because they loved each other. So yeah, in Juliet's case I do think that, but in modern times, I don't. You, unlike Juliet, have had many examples of people who love each other in your life."
"Maya, neither of us have had parents that have had happy relationships, and look where we are." Lucas says. I smile and lay my head on his chest.
"Wait Lucas, what are you talking about? You've never said anything about your parents." Farkle says confused. The smile leaves my face and I sit up and look at him. Lucas sighs.
"My dad was a jerk. He used to hit me and my mom, and he walked out on us a year and a half ago." Lucas says, avoiding eye contact with all of us.
"How come you never told us?" Riley asks.
"It's not something that I really like to talk about, but that's not the point. The point is it doesn't matter if your parents had a happy relationship, because you are not your parents." Lucas says.
AN
Okay so it's really short and really bad but its an update so there ya go.
I also kinda want to write this chapter, but the topic is kind of mature (it wouldn't be enough to change the maturity level of the book.) I also don't know if it would be about Riley or Maya, but it would probably be Maya. I'm just not sure that I want to write it because its really sad and traumatizing and I'm not sure I want to cause Maya Hart any more pain, so if you want me to write it then please let me know.
