I looked up and my eyes met his honey-gold ones. We held the gaze for a while before I rolled my eyes.
I hugged my knees and bowed my head. "Go away," my voice came out muffled.
I heard him shift his footing and looked up, expecting him to be walking away. Surprisingly, he was walking towards me. An annoyed look was showing clearly.
My eyes followed his feet until they stopped in front of me. "It's raining, you idiot."
"I'm staying in the rain then. It's what idiots do," I said defiantly, still bowing my head.
I heard him sigh then felt a pair of hands forcing me up by my elbows. I miserably tried escaping his grasp but stopped and slumped after realizing he wouldn't let go.
"Then you're not an idiot. You're just really really dumb. Get back in."
I looked up and raised an eyebrow.
That was when I realized just how soaked Tsukishima was. "You're soaking wet, go in and leave me alone," I said while looking away.
Why was he here? Why wouldn't he just go?
Just go.
He wouldn't.
"Just go," I said aloud this time, more commandingly.
He rolled his eyes and ruffled his hair. "If you're not going in, you'll get a cold."
"I'd say the same for you."
He raised an eyebrow. "Touché. Then we'll both stay."
"Listen, just please leave me alone. Stop pretending that you care. There's no one here to see so cut the act. In fact, just stop pretending about anything already. Go." I waved a hand a turned away from him to face the wall.
"You're so stubborn I could die."
"Thanks."
After a moment, he pinched the bridge of his nose and slid down the wall beside me. "I'm...not...pretending," he whispered to no one in particular.
I heard. Of course I did. Somehow, even the rain couldn't mute those words. But I was happy it didn't. But in the end, I ignored what he said and relaxed against the cold slippery wall, feeling the rain flow down the tendrils of my hairs then wash down my face and drip down my chin. Sometimes, the wind would make stray tendrils of hair stick to my cheek but I'd ignored it. I smiled like a fool. I don't know why, but to know that he wasn't pretending made me happy.
I could hear Tsukishima's steady breathing beside me as a comfortable silence settled in the air. I leaned my head against the wall and closed my eyes, enjoying the sound of rainfall.
"Hey," I said after a moment.
Tsukishima grunted.
"Let's head back in," I said and tried to pushed myself up. I felt ten times heavier than usual due to my soaked clothes and had a little difficulty getting up so I placed a palm on the wall for support. Unfortunately, my palms slipped off the wall which then caused me to lose balance.
I gasped and grabbed at the air until my eyes landed on Tsukishima - who hadn't realized I was falling - was still down on the floor. Other times, I would've avoided having to even touch him but when you're falling, it doesn't matter.
I grabbed his neck mid-fall, surprising him. His eyes widened for a moment before he began to comprehend what was happening. His expression quickly turned from surprise to annoyance.
Then I fell face first.
I squeezed my eyes shut as though to lessen the impact.
It never came.
For some reason, I was lying on something...warm. Thoughts started running through my mind.
I'm not on top of him right?
Fudge.
Of course not, it's probably my soft warm body supporting myself...or something.
Hah, stupid absurd thoughts. If maybe I just opened my eyes and...
Tsukishima's groaning interrupted my thoughts. Unwillingly, I opened my eyes and stared down at what hopefully was the ground.
But no, it had blonde hair, glasses, and not to mention a pained expression.
"Tsu-tsukishima?" my face scrunched up just from looking at his pained expression.
I inched closer to his face in concern when his eyes fluttered opened and met mine. I gasped and leaned back in surprise. He looked at me and raised an eyebrow.
"What are you doing on top of me? Get off." he brows wrinkled in irritation as he looked at me.
I looked down at our position, finally comprehending just how awkward this was - my hands were by his temples whilst my legs were straddling him.
Blushing madly, I got off of him, though my knees felt like they could have collapsed any moment I was still on top of him. Thankfully, they didn't. He got up after me so I assumed he was probably going to leave after what had happened.
I stood there, looking at the rain fall and pool in the small holes on the ground. Hugging my arms, I stayed like that until I looked up again and saw that Tsukishima was still there.
He just stood there. He just stood there.
As expected, his annoyed expression was all over his face.
"You're expecting a 'thank you for saving my fall' or something right?" I said rubbing my elbow, not looking his way.
"No, baka. I'm waiting for you to get in." he groaned.
This time, I looked at him.
Waiting for me? Don't lie to me Tsukishima Kei, you cold-hearted person.
"What? You were the one who said we should right?" he said matter-of-factly.
I swallowed and felt a swell of emotions in my gut.
He actually remembered what I said earlier. I didn't even remember that I'd said that.
I met his eyes and we held our gaze for a moment. I felt a small smile dance at my lips.
"You're not as cold as you act, Tsukishima."He rolled his eyes. "So are you going back in?"
"Yeah," I smiled as he proceeded to walk first.
