The 3rd day:
Laura had hard, salty sweat maneuvering its way down her face as she ran for her life, from her life. All she could do was hold onto an improbable bit of hope that she would survive. She was praying, begging that this wasn't the end. As she ran on and on, It got atramentously darker. The green figures of trees were faded into nothing but, dull blurs mocking her entire existence. There was excruciating pain in every cell in her body within a single step. But she ran, she had no choice. Her blood was stiff as it flowed through every frozen vain in her body. She endeavored to look behind her as the sweat blinded most of her vision. The dark figure in the cloak was gaining on her, closer, faster. It became extremely hard for her to breathe. Every inhale scratched her throat. As she exhaled, there was a burning pressure against her lungs. She could hear her heart beating to the rhythm of her steps. But she ran into the darkness. Tired and afraid, but she ran. Her eyes were throbbing as she struggled to keep them open. Her entire, tender leg was stinging from the first few shots. Her mind told her to stop, the pain would be over soon if she stopped. But her heart told her otherwise.
She ran until she couldn't anymore, she fell to the floor as the heat she had been enduring quickly turned into an icy sensation. She quivered on the floor as pain shocked itself throughout her body until she became numb and paralyzingly scared. she was almost as cold as the frozen heart the figure possesses. She was about to get up and continue running when something stopped her. A hand even colder than she was cut through the air reaching for her wounded cheek. Their piercing flesh pulled on her neck until she was close enough to meet them eye to eye. Which is exactly what she did. She was weak and it took all of her strength to look up with faint hope. She noticed very familiar features carved into the mans face. The golden locks fell perfectly around his head covering his dark eyes. She knew exactly who it was. His eyes widen as they got darker, darker than the night itself. There are no words to describe the immense fear pounding against her weakened ribs as the love of her life held her by the neck. He pulled out a small weapon about the size of his hand and held it up to her. His hand began to pull back on the trigger about to make the biggest mistake of his life when she found the courage to scream. The silence of the night pierced her ears as she screamed as loudly, as hardly as she could. She vigorously kicked as Ross yelled out her. "Laura!" He screamed her name and held her face close. She gasped for air as she woke up. "Laura..." He sighed with relief encovering his tone. Laura, with tears streaming down her face looked him in the eye and fear filled up inside of her. She jumped out of bed onto the cold floor and backed up against the wall. "Laura? It's me." Ross' tone was scratchy and scarce as he walked over to her. Laura stood petrified up against the wall greeted by the dim light of the lamp. "Laura? It was a dream." Ross said still confused of what was going on. Laura didn't respond just stood, looking at his golden locks, and dark eyes, darker than the night itself.
She stumbled, swayed, and finally fell. She laid cold and lifeless on the floor as silence filled every corner of the room with fear. Ross couldn't do much to help her because of his leg, he was still recovering. The rugged metal was unbearably hard to control, maybe he was just getting used to it. He started crying as he fell asleep knowing that the love of his life laid alone on the floor... Afraid of him... His eyes watering as they shut until daylight.
As for Laura, she lay afraid, she let her eyes wonder around the room as she thought of what her dream meant, or if it was a dream at all. She had a sharp, stinging pain in her leg as she lay in the never ending taunting darkness. Every elongated second broke off a piece of her heart stitch by stitch. Ever so often she heard a pitter patter of a mouse or the trickling of the rain. But for now, she laid on the uncomfortable floor, dead.
The sun slowly crept up into the unspoken morning air. The warm sun rays casted shadows against the damp grass. Birds chirped as they soared past their house, it had a eerie sense of abandonment. Ross stepped out of bed as his soft heels greeted the stone hard floor. Laura stood up like a zombie rising from the dead into new life. She still felt emotionless except for the one feeling that took over her body, fear. Ross looked at her with sympathy, but she was still afraid. His cold eyes which were once comforting were now staring into her soul, clenching her heart. Goosebumps rose from her raw arms as she trembled inside and out. He inched closer to her still confused of what she was so afraid of. Ross reached for her cheek as she struggled to remain still. Thoughts and questions raced through her mind as her heart began to beat at a million miles a minute. Time sped up but at the same time seemed to not move at all. His arm carefully moved closer to her fragile face. Laura was ready to bolt out of there never to look back, but why? Why was she so afraid of the love of her life? It was a dream, but how could a dream feel so real? She looked down at her lower body and nothing appeared to be wrong, but there was a shocking pain shooting up through her leg. Ross finally reached her cheek and Laura felt a sense of relief. He pulled her in for a hug and she started crying into his chest.
"It was only a dream." Ross rubbed her nervous back and tried to calm her. Ross pulled her in close and crashed his lips onto hers. Laura's fingers got lost in his hair as it went on for what seemed like forever. Laura laid in Ross' strong arms all day and they talked for hours. Laura still didn't understand why that dream felt so real though. She pulled away from Ross for a few seconds to stare into his dark eyes, darker than the night itself.
