Kenma rummaged through a chest at the foot of his bed. He was looking for something to wear. His hair was wet and it dangled limply down his back.

His aunt had decided today of all days that company would be coming. Even throughout his protest she urged him that this would be good for him. He didn't want to offend anyone. Whomever it was who was coming.

He threw shirt after shirt, and pants after pants into the floor. His aunt peeped through the crack in the door.
"Kenma, you can borrow something of mine if you want." She stood halfway through the door and propped herself against the door frame.

"Thanks Kirai ." He wheeled around thankfully and smiled.
His aunt was around twenty three. She had black silky hair that stretched to the small of her back as well. Her features resembled Kenma's to a T.
They could pass for siblings.

He went to Kirai's room and checked her closet. Kenma found something to wear almost instantly.

It was a sleeveless baby pink blouse that had beads and crystals at the neck and collar. A long black shear skirt with a thick band at the chest. It stretched down to his ankles.
He twirled in the skirt. Watching as it parachuted around him. He smiled contently and made his way back to his room. His aunt hollered from below the balcony. "Kenma, I don't want you getting ready when they've arrived! Hurry up ya slowpoke."

Kenma didn't understand the rush. Apparently they weren't leaving the house. Why was she being so pushy?

"I'll be ready in a bit!" He grabbed some hair pins from his dresser and threw his hair into a messy bun. It sat high upon the back of his head.
He double took in the mirror to make sure he looked decent.
Okay, he glanced over to his dresser.
To makeup or not to makeup?
That was the question.

                                •••

The wait was rather short. He sat there gnawing on an apple fritter, wondering why he had to be dressed up over company. Though this really wasn't his finest wear.

Is it someone important?
Kirai doesn't usually do surprises.

Surprises didn't entice Kenma. They agitated him. He had enough anxiety already. All of it was tiring.

"Come on look happy. It's been awhile since you've seen anyone." Kirai strode leisurely into the dining room.
Her ponytail whipped behind her as she went to take a bite of Kenma's doughnut. She nudged him as she made silly faces.
He couldn't help but laugh.

"KENMA!" A boisterous voice called from the front door. He was confused. No one in this town had greeted him so familiar. When Kenma got close enough to the door he saw that it was his bestfriend. She flung the door open and gave him a bear hug. Dumbfounded, Kenma didn't have much time to hug her back.

"Oh my gosh, Kenma! It's been forever!" She pulled away to look at him. "Ugh, could you stop being gorgeous!" Tsumi laughed.
Kenma rose an eyebrow. He thought Tsumi was more of a modern Marilyn Monroe than anyone. Though she didn't resemble her much. She had pale blonde hair and piercing hazel green eyes. A beauty mark under her right eye. She wore a neon blue graphic tee shirt and ripped black skinny jeans.
Kenma thought vividly contraire as she thought of herself. He spoke softly.

"Tsumi you haven't changed."
His aunt had went outside to talk to Tsumi's mother. Leaving them sitting idle at the dining table.
"Sooo," she drawled. "Do you like the new school? Are people messing with you cause I'll Chuck Norris any-." Kenma waved a hand.

"I like it. And it's all smooth sailing so far. So why'd you transfer?"
"Why?! Because you're my bestfriend Kenma! And I missed you of course!" "Aww, I missed you too." He touched his chest lightly as Tsumi laughed. Just then Kenma's phone buzzed. He took it out and sat it upon the table, moving it towards the edge.

"Ohh, Who's that?" She asked slyly.
"S-Some guy from school." He avoided her eye contact in a bashful manner.
She squealed and gasped as she jumped in her seat.
"Kenma! You like him don't you!"
With widened eyes he merged his brows. Shaking his head he tried to dismiss her accusation. He didn't like guys. He might have dressed like a girl, but he didn't like guys.
At least that's what he thought.

"Yes you do! Do you have a picture?!"
Tsumi was happier than Kenma was about the situation.
"Oh my--ahhhh he's HOT!" She exclaimed after examining the photo.
"Kenma my friend, you need to get this. Let me be your wingman." She tapped at the screen and slid the phone back.

"What? No. He likes girls." He quoted at the air with his fingers.
"So! He seems really into you. He even gave you his phone number! Who does that?! And I know he's got to be like, Prince Charming if you like him." Tsumi poked his forehead and which he sighed jokingly.

"Well...he's really into the Italian Renaissance, surprisingly.-" Kenma kept talking. And the more he talked the more Tsumi was going to try to convince him of his feelings.
She sipped from a glass of water that had been placed on the table.

"Do you think you'd ever tell him?"
He looked up and crossed his legs under the table.
He had given it thought.
What Kuroo would do when he found out he wasn't a girl?

If he did find out, if anyone found out. It would became a big issue, he would have to switch schools again.

He sighed and leaned his back against the hard wooden chair.
"Don't worry Kenma. I've got your back through all of this."
"Thanks, but don't get expelled like the last two times. It's bad for transcripts."
Tsumi laughed profoundly. Kenma knew that she didn't really care about academics. Her grades didn't reflect her smarts at all. If she tried she could have graduated already.

When Ms. Seishin and Kirai stepped in they decided to go for a walk.
Puddles were stretched down the sidewalk. It had been raining.
They instead sat on the porch, overlooking the cars that passed. Tsumi critiquing everything from the model, make, and car brand.
"I forgot how much you loved cars. You're such a tomboy." Kenma chuckled and held his hands in front of him for a stretch.

Tsumi smiled from ear to ear. "How'd you think I got that nickname. People still use it too."
Kenma thought back to his middle school days. She would pick larva from the trees at school and throw them in Tatsuya's lunch. It was her way of telling her she liked him. Though it did quite the opposite. Or when Tsumi would fight guys on the bottom of the stairwell at the school entrance. She'd gotten around to beating almost all of the seventh grade boys until she got reported. The nickname ' Tomboy of Quilview bay ' suited her indefinitely.

"Kenma?" She asked gingerly.
"Have you talked to your mom lately?"
His response was flat, sharp, and cold hearted. "No."

He didn't need to talk to her.
Nor did he want to.
At this point he didn't care what became of the relationship with his mom. Or if he ever saw her again.

She let out a deep sigh and kicked her legs out. Breaking the silence that overtook their space.

"Ugh, I start school Monday!" Tsumi whined childishly.
"Don't worry. It's gonna be fine."
"Yeah, as long as we have classes together. If we don't I'm going to complain to the counselor."

"Oh yeah!" She shot up and pointed her index finger at her chest, grinning.
"If Mr. Sexy stuff tries to question you about not texting him back just say you were spending time with me. I'm more important anyways."

     "I'm not saying that."

Kenma shook his head and smiled.
This was what he's been missing.
Tsumi's nonstop talking.
Her open mindedness.
Her doting smile.
Kenma liked how they could talk and joke like they hadn't been apart for almost a year. A while without the only person who understands you isn't all that peachy.
