"Miss me?" She smiles opening her arms for a hug.I dash into her arms and hold on, scared if I let go, she'll disappear. "How could I not miss you? Two years is way too long!" We keep hugging and I feel the tears of joy start to make their way to my eyes. But I blink them and away. "Where's Dad and Kellan?" I ask.
"Downstairs," she replies while unraveling our tight hug. I dash down the stairs and immediately see Kellan with his bags.
He drops them to the ground and sends me a familiar smile. Without a word of warning, we jump into our secret handshake. A lot of claps and snaps later we do our grand finale where he flips me over and back onto my feet.
We're both laughing when Dad enters with a small yellow box with a pink ribbon. We hug and he hands it to me. I pull off the ribbon in less than a second and open the box.
Inside is a beautiful bracelet. It has black and white marble beads with my zodiac sign, the Leo, in the center.
"I love it! I'm gonna wear it right now!" I say while clipping it on. "Where did you find this is in Honduras?"
"There was a little shop selling zodiac jewelry that was just gorgeous. And we thought of you!" My mom says.
We leave and go to our own house, thanking the Scotts on our way out the door. The drive makes the dreariness of winter feel like the best time of summer. The clouds seem to part, revealing our long lost sun. The trees grow leaves and blow in the wind along with the slowly greening grass.

The next day at school, I go to my locker as usual, but today a guy, and I will admit, a pretty attractive guy is standing near it.
"Hey!" he says when I approach him. I obviously recognize the boy. His name is Tanner, and he's the guy Annie's been insisting I talk to. I don't stop to respond to him, figuring he's just speaking to someone behind me. It would be really nice if people didn't just hang out at my locker...
"Vanessa?" he asked, a look of concern on his face. I stared at his gorgeous green eyes for a second before it clicked.
He was talking to me!
Huh. This hasn't happened before. Being friends with the most popular girls in school, you get used to attractive boys constantly asking you what your friends like, and where they could find them. I guess I never really expected one to actually start a conversation with me.
"Oh! You were talking to me. Sorry I..." But I wasn't able to finish my sentence because a loud, abrupt laughter cut me off. I looked at Tanner, wondering what could possibly be so funny.
"You're adorable," he laughed, tapping me lightly on the nose.
"Umm..." Was all I could say. I couldn't tell what this boy wanted.
"I'm going to leave." I turned on my heels and headed into the crowd of students as fast as my long legs could take me. I just about reached the doors to the cafeteria before someone grabbed my arm and whipped me around. The person standing in front of me wasn't really a surprise.
"I'm sorry Vanessa. Let me try again," Tanner said before clearing his throat. And then he spoke the unthinkable.
"Vanessa Brown, will you be kind enough to accompany me to lunch?"
