It was the Fourth of July. Dad had come home yesterday, so I finally wasn't all alone.

I went for a run in the morning, then got in a cold shower. I really didn't know what I was going to do today, every fourth, me and my family would go camping in the old cabin that my grandad owned. This year was different, everyone was away, this time it was just me and Dad.

I went downstairs and saw my dad getting the living room ready, for what seemed like a party.

"Dad, what's all this?"

"Oh, hey, forgot to tell you, I have a couple friends coming over today, you're welcome to stay and invite a couple friends too."

"Uh okay, I probably will."

"Ok, no boys, he chuckled, just girls."

"Ha yeah dad, no boys." I laughed.

"Did you buy fireworks?" I asked.

"Not yet, we'll go a little later."

"Okay."

I went upstairs to my room. Today was such a beautiful day, this time of year brought back so many good memories it made me kind of sad, to remember how fun my life used to be back then, and now it's all gone.

I had invited Jade to the party. Kylie couldn't make it, she had gone to her grandparents house to celebrate.

Jade was kind of like me. She only had two little brothers, which pretty much meant being alone all the time.

Ever since her parents split up, she was always alone. Her brothers were young and they lived with her dad, she didn't get to see them too often. Only when she babysat them.

The house was starting to get filled with my dad's friends. A lot of them brought their families.

This wasn't making me feel any better, I missed my family so much.

After a while, I heard the door bell. My dad was too busy laughing with his friends that he ignored it, or didn't hear it. I went over and opened the door.

I was so surprised at who was at the door.

"Daryl, Liz, Michael, come in."

They all smiled and came in.

"My dad is in the backyard" I said looking at Daryl.

"Okay thank you, sweetheart."

I knew my dad was still friends with Michael's dad, but I didn't think he'd invite them here after what happened between me and Michael.

"The girls are in the kitchen." I told Liz.

"I'll make my way over there then" she said laughing.

"Okay." I said as she walked passed me.

Michael just stood there staring at me.

"HI." He said loudly.

I laughed. "Hi Michael."

"You know about what happened a couple nights ago-"

"Don't worry, I won't make you feel awkward." I said cutting him off.

"Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing. He laughed. Here let's just start over yeah?"

"Sure." I said.

He held out his hand, I'm Michael.

I giggled and shook his hand. "Nice to meet you Michael, I'm-"

"Beautiful." He said cutting me off.

"Ha, no. I'm Layla."

He laughed. "Nice to meet you Layla, you seem familiar, have I seen you before?" He asked.
