Chapter 6

It had been two weeks since the big tournament win. It was also Sunday, the most boring day ever.

I lay in bed, cuddled in my soft blanket, thinking. I hadn't met anyone like Mr. Wood. I never knew he was so devoted into engaging us teens into the world of tennis. Of course I had loved tennis all my life, but throughout the weeks I noticed other people talking about Wimbledon constantly, or smiling when they learned a new drill in tennis. I couldn't help but smile along with them. He was making me fall more and more in love with him everyday.

I decided to go for a walk, near a forest by my house. I quickly jumped out of bed, putting on my comfy gray sweater with yoga pants. I quickly brushed my hair, put on my uggs, and ran out the door. The leaves crunched as I walked through the forest path behind my house.

I loved the smell of Autumn itself; the air having a sweet scent to it. After a mile or so, I reached a clearing. The view was amazing, trees with leaves orange and red surrounded me, and the cool wind whipped my face. This was my favorite place to write and think about things. I closed my eyes, taking in the smell of nature. I spread my arms wide (titanic style) and sighed, nature's beauty was breathtaking.

"It's a beautiful place, isn't it?" I quickly put my arms down and turned around. Mr. Wood was standing right behind me. My heart started beating faster, what was he doing here? "Err...yeah it's awesome! So what are you doing here." I said, unsure. "I stay about two miles from here, I always go for a jog through this amazing trail. I love the scenery, it's breathtaking."He said, his eyes lighting up. "So from the way I saw you, you seem to come here alot too."He said with a playful smile. "Yeah I wasn't trying to reenact the titanic or anything. The beauty of nature just amazes me sometimes."I said. "I come here to write alot." I said, embarrassed that I just told him one of my secrets. He smiled, nodding his head.

We started walking down the path, talking about ourselves. He told me about growing up in Tennesee where his parents owned a grocery store. "My dad decided to give up the store and find a better job. We moved to many places but ended up settling here in Chicago. I've always loved this place." I nodded. Chicago was a great place to live in, it always attracted tourists from all over the place. "Yeah, I've actually lived here my whole life."I said. "My dad is a computer engineer and my mom is a doctor. They're pretty much busy 24/7. It gets hard at times with nobody in the house, but tennis always helps me stay focused."

It was weird how easy it was to talk to him. We continued talking for an hour about tennis and life in general, and I realized it was almost time to go home. "I'm sorry. I think I have to go home now."I said, not wanting to go. "Yeah it was really nice talking to you. I'll see you tomorrow."He said, his smile warming my body. "Yeah see you."I said.

I turned around, heading back to my house. A sudden boldness crawled through my body.

"Wait!"I shouted. He turned around. "Umm...I was wondering if you wanted to maybe play tennis or something this week. I know a place that has tennis courts actually right near the trail. It would be like a two minute walk from here."I said, my heart racing. He smiled. "Yeah sure sounds good! I'll meet you here at 4." He walked away. I waited for him to turn around the corner before I started jumping up and down. "Yes!!!"I shouted.

I couldn't believe this was happening.
