New State, New Me

"I got laid off," isn't a statement a kid normally gets. When my dad walked in our front door with a box of his possessions for the third time saying he got laid off, we had enough. My dad started looking everywhere and anywhere for a job. We hit our lucky mark when he was offered a job in Oregon.

With all the visitations with my mom we had to figure something out while so we could move up there. We agreed that to maintain all her visitation days I would go back for five and a half weeks during the summer and about a week and a half during Christmas break. After the agreement was made, we started the three day long drive. I moved with my dad up to Oregon while the rest of my family stayed, except for Keira who moved to northern Cali.

In a new state with no one who knows who I am, I figured that I could re-invent myself. I decided I'd only tell people what I wanted them to know, and what I didn't want them to know, I'd come up with something. I started the school year off going out for the volleyball team, where I ended up making the JV2 team. I during our first week of practice this girl came in who I hadn't seen at camp or practice earlier that week. Her name was Julia.

She seemed like a nice girl, and she was the first one to talk to me and ask to be my partner. Turns out we became best friends. She introduced me to the twins Belle and Symphony, as well as Blaire. I was also introduced to Julissa but she seems to have hated me from the start for some unknown reason. Julia, Belle, Symphony, and Blaire soon became my close circle of friends.

At first I told them only what I wanted them to know, but as time went on, I learned that for us to become the kind of friends I wanted to be, I had to open up and tell them the truth about who I am. So I did, little by little. Some I told more than the others but that was because I had a deeper trust in them, I felt like I could trust them more. It wasn't anything personal, it was just one of those gut feelings.
