Mackenzie walked into her classroom the next day after dropping Auggie off at his, sitting down in her regular seat. Not too long after, Lani sat down beside her and the two immediately sent smiles to each other.
"Morning, Kenzie!"
"Kenzie?" Mackenzie questioned, turning to look at her newfound friend. Lani nodded with the smile still present on her face.
"It's my new nickname for you? Don't like it?" She asked. Mackenzie shook her head softly.
"No, it's not that. My brother is usually the only one that calls me that. It's strange hearing it from someone else, but I like it." She smiled reassuringly. Lani giggled before turning towards the front of the room where their teacher was beginning the lesson.
Not even twenty minutes in, a paper was being thrown onto Mackenzie's desk, causing her to stop writing her notes and glance around discreetly to see who threw it. She could see Lani gesturing for her to open the note with her pencil and Mackenzie instantly knew it was her. She rolled her eyes playfully before opening the note to see Lani's messy handwriting.
Let's go shopping after school!
Mackenzie turned her head back towards Lani and nodded, causing them both to smile widely before going back to the lesson.

The school day has finally ended and Mackenzie was leading Auggie down the cobblestone steps and towards her mother's car. Lani said that she would wait for Mackenzie by the steps until she was done asking Topanga for permission. Once Mackenzie was in front of the car, she opened the backseat and helped Auggie inside before shutting it. Topanga slid the window of the passenger seat down, looking at Mackenzie with a confused expression.
"Mackenzie? Aren't you going to come inside?"
"A-Actually, I was wondering if I could go shopping with Lani," Mackenzie replied, glancing around nervously. Topanga thought for a second before nodding her head.
"Sure! Here are twenty bucks and call me when you want me to pick you up!"
Mackenzie smiled brightly, putting the twenty-dollar bill into her pocket.
"Thanks, mom! And I will!" She exclaimed, running off to where she saw her honey-blonde friend standing. Lani stood up straight from her leaning position against the steps, eyes lighting up when she saw Mackenzie running towards her.
"Your mom said yes?"
"Yup! We're free to go wherever we want so where do you want to go first?"

Lani and Mackenzie had taken the subway to just about every store they could think of. They didn't spend much, mostly on small accessories such as bracelets. They had made it to the last store, Lucy's Boutique, and looked around before picking out some shirts that were on sale and buying them. Lani wanted to buy more than just a few shirts, but Mackenzie quickly reminded her how their money was limited.
They exited the store and stood outside as they watched the sunset.
"Today was so much fun!" Lani exclaimed as she stretched her arms above her head, the shopping bags dangling from her wrists. Mackenzie giggled and nodded.
