My stuff was in my dorm which was nice and already put away in the drawers, which made me wonder who had gone through my things. I forgot that thought though, when I laid down on my bed, it was soft and I was mentally exhausted. Soon enough I wasn't even able to hold my eyes open anymore. Before I knew it I was being woken up by a knock on the door, "Dude, dinner's in ten minutes." Jacob said through the door.
"Alright." I replied wiping the sleep from my eyes. He opened the door.
"We're you sleeping this whole time?" He asked.
"I guess." I shrugged.
"So you didn't hear anything that went on outside? At all?" He asked
"No." I replied becoming increasingly suspicious and somewhat curious.
"Oh well. I guess it will all be explained at dinner." He said.
"What will be-" but he had already left the room.
I followed Jacob down to what he called the Grand Hall. The place was nice, fitting in with the rest of the building. Community tables with the ability to fit ten people were evenly distributed throughout the room. Each had a white table cloth over it and napkins at every seat. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling. The teachers sat off to one side at a table longer than the rest. To say the least, the room was quite impressive.
Jacob walked towards the table where Thea sat and her friend Elizabeth sat right next to her. Thea looked up from her food when Jacob and I walked to the table. She gave a slight, uninterested smile and went back to her conversation while pulling at the bread on her plate and eating bit by bit with a pile of butter.
The room hushed until quiet when Headmaster Kelly, stood up. She looked around and made a couple of general announcements until a bright smile lit up her face.
"Today, we have a major announcement about one of our students. Thea McHenry, please come up here." The headmaster said with a large smile. A proud smile, like one a mother gives a daughter. There was an obvious bond between the two. A kinship that went beyond student and headmaster.
Thea got out of her chair and walked to the headmaster. She obviously wasn't nearly excited about this as headmaster Kelly was.
"Thea McHenry has developed her fire dominance into an electric dominance. I believe she deserves a round of applause." The headmaster said.
Thea made a face that only Elizabeth and I seemed to notice. Elizabeth made one back. It was obvious Thea did not care about the attention she was receiving. Thea was lead off to the teachers table where she was further congratulated.
"What is a dominance?" I asked Jacob when he was finished talking to Elizabeth.
"A dominance is when you almost master an ability inside a power. Thea has the ability to control fire. She mastered that and now she can control electricity. She hasn't mastered that but once she has..." jacob paused, looking off to where Thea stood, in awe of her ability. "once she masters that, she will have mastered her power. Already, she is the most mastered in the school. The last time something like this happened is when-" Elizabeth jabbed him in the stomach and gave him a warning glare.
"when did this last happen?" I asked needing to know. Both Jacob and Elizabeth shared a look before telling me.
"last time, it was your grandmother. And even then, she wasn't as young as Thea." Elizabeth said as if they shared a secret.
I looked back to Thea. She now spoke to a lithe and fit looking woman off to the side of the Teacher's Table. The woman, who I suspect to be a trainer, seemed to be warning Thea. I wished I could see Thea's face.
It seems there's a lot to learn about this school of freaks and weirdos.
