Thea finally came back to the table and sat down. "Man that was boring."

"Boring? Thea, that is an honor that people at this school would kill for." A girl across the table said. She had large glasses, too big for her round face and was petite. Her dirty-blonde hair was tied back in a pony tail of messy curls.

"Leah, if they could kill me then they would be honored." Thea shrugged tearing off a bit of bread, spreading butter on it and putting it in her mouth.

"Pride comes before the fall." Leah said rolling her eyes and eating her own food.

"You keep telling me that, yet..." Thea said putting her hands up in question and scrunching up her face while looking around as if waiting for something bad to happen. "Nothing bad has happened yet."

"Thea, you're being a bitch." Elizabeth said.

"You're right. Sorry Leah. You're close to mastering your ability!" Thea said insincerely.

"Whatever." Leah said rolling her eyes and eating.

I had a sudden heart attack when Thea turned her attention to me. I really didn't want to get on her bad side right now, I'm new and I think jacob and Elizabeth are kind of cool.

"So, new kid, you were pretty cool out there today. I heard that you imploded a football field at your old school, is that true?" She asked bluntly.

"Yes-well no, I didn't. I was just the only one around to see it." He said.

"That happened to me too. When I was first discovering my powers I set a playground on fire. By accident. I didn't even know I had started it. I was just angry once and all of a sudden, kaboom." Thea said making and explosion with her hands. The flames coming out of her hands helped.

"Oh. Well I really don't think I did it." I tried to explain.

"You're the grandson of Claire, right? Claire everhart?" Thea asked putting her chin on top of her hand.

"I guess."

"She had a similar thing happen to her. Except it was a pool that caused many casualties." Thea explained without a hint of grief.

"My grandmother killed people?" I asked outraged.

"Of course! But not then. Casualties are what we call the people who's minds we have to alter when they find out about our powers. I guess we should come up with a better name for that though." Elizabeth explained because Thea's mouth was filled with food.

"What's your name again?" Thea asked suddenly.

"Seth." I said.

"I'm Thea, it's nice to meet you." Thea stuck out her hand across jacob for me to shake.

"Yeah, nice to meet you." Although, I was highly doubting meeting Thea was a 'nice' thing.

Her hand was almost unbearably cold, which was surprising due to her heat abilities.

She released her hand too quickly as if I had burned her. She then turned towards Elizabeth and they started their own conversations. That was weird.

Jacob acted as if noting happened. "Tonight is the opening day fireworks. They're wicked. And we have our own place to watch them. You should come with us." He motioned to the rest of the table.

"Yeah. That sounds cool." I paused before asking, "I've been wondering, what kind of sports do you play, cause if it's something like quidich, I don't know if I can take this school seriously."

"You just wait until you see our uniforms." He said. "And we have regular sports like football and soccer."

"Uniforms? I didn't know we had to wear those." I complained.

"They aren't too bad. Plus the school provided them. I'm surprised you didn't see them earlier, they should be in your closet."

"I didn't spend a lot of time looking around." I said thinking about my nap earlier.

"You were really sleeping that entire time? Dude." Jacob looked as if there were something wrong with me.

"I was tired. I've just discovered a whole new world, give me a break." I defended.

"Yeah sure, whatever."

I noticed people were starting to get up from their tables around us. Jacob noticed me looking around too and said, "they just want a good seat for the fireworks. They don't start for another hour, though."

"Oh,cool." I replied.

"I'm done here I'm going back to the dorm if you want to come." He said. I know that if I tried to make it back on my own I would get lost, so I grabbed a few rolls and pads of butter and followed him out the door. This time I made sure to memorize the way around. At least this way I would always know where to get food.

I finally took time to look around the dorm. Dorm 214 was situated on the second floor with a perfect view of the ocean and forest. It was a surprisingly clear night to match the clear day. The moon shone and the stars were bright which made since because of how far away we were from the closest city.

The dorm itself was a good size with a fireplace in the living room, a sofa, a couple of lounge chairs, a coffee table with a remote for a tv. The thing was, there was no tv.

I kept looking around, there was a breakfast table in a semi-separated area next to the kitchen. There were four doors, which meant two roommates I hadn't met yet.

Jacob went to sit on the couch which faced the fire place and he picked up the remote. He pressed a button and suddenly the whole picture above the fireplace slid down to show a tv. That is some high tech.

I sat on a chair that faced the ceiling to floor windows. How could this place be so nice?

"Hey, how high is tuition here?" I asked jacob.

"There isn't tuition. The only way to get into the school is through invitation." Jacob said, a little distracted by the television.

"Then how can the school afford this?" I asked.

"We pay it off by working jobs. The government sends us on missions and pays the school instead of us. It's great because we don't have to pay, we're learning and getting real world experience, and those jobs put us on the lists of governments around the world for our future."

"Oh." I replied. I wondered how long it would be until I got my first job or mission or whatever.

Jacob looked at the time, "we should go." He said.

I followed him out the door.
