About ten minutes after the act, Beverly spotted Barbie lounging around the bar in her purple gown. Bud appeared for the first time heading into the main lounge from a hallway off to the side of the bar, perhaps from an office area. He snapped his fingers when he spotted Barbie and angrily motioned for her to follow him.
Gasping, Beverly saw Dana standing in the dim lighting of the same hall, obediently waiting for them. On his way by, Bud grabbed her by the arm jerking her back into the shadows, and the three disappeared from sight.
"Did you see that, Dan?" Beverly asked, obviously concerned. "That was the girl I've been concerned about! She's actually here in the club and it looks like the three of them might be going somewhere."
"I saw it. That guy looked REALLY pissed." Dan said.
"Let's get out of here, Dan; there might be an exit at the end of that hallway. If they leave, I need to know about it."
Beverly's suspicion was confirmed when they got outside. As they came out the door they heard muted, but very angry voices coming from around the corner of the building. It was the side they would be on had there been an exit down that hallway. Assuming it was them, Beverly began moving closer.
"What are you doing?" Dan whispered anxiously as he reached out to stop her.
Shaking Dan's hand loose, Beverly turned and put her finger to her mouth. Stopping at the corner, she crouched and took a quick glance. There they were, next to a very large maroon Cadillac sedan. She could see Bud shaking Barbie as Dana stood by helplessly. Once she verified it was them, Beverly quickly moved back into the cover of the building and listened. It was difficult, but she could make out a few words here and there.
"You stupid bitch...You HAD to take her...Goddamned shrink...The cops will...I'll fix her...You and Dana... tonight..." With that, Bud must have realized he was too loud and lowered his voice as he shoved them into the car. There was no point in being exposed any longer, so Beverly motioned for Dan to head for the car.
Once inside Dan asked, "What the hell was that all about?" He was uneasy and a little upset that she had taken such a chance.
"I wanted to make sure the girl was alright," Beverly said, as she started the Z4 and let it idle.
"Aren't we going to leave?" Dan asked, anxious to have potential complications behind them.
"I'm waiting to see where they're going," Beverly replied.
"What are you going to do, tail them?" Dan said, thinking he was being sarcastic.
"Yes," Beverly replied, just as the big Cadillac squealed out of the parking lot. There were only two figures visible in the car, appearing to be both female. Bud must have gone back into the buns, she thought.
"By the sound of those tires, I'd say Barbie's pissed. I have to find out where she's going, Dan. If you're not comfortable with it, I can drop you off."
"I don't really care to walk back to the marina from here, so I guess I'm going. Just remember, this white Z4 is pretty conspicuous. If you plan to do much private investigating, you might want to consider getting something less obvious!"
"You have a point there," Beverly said. "Do you have any experience with this sort of stuff?"
"Actually, well...no, but I used to watch a lot of private investigator shows and they're always following someone," Dan replied.
"I guess that's better than nothing. Help me do this, Dan. I don't want to get us caught, but I've got to find out what's going on and where they're off to."
