My Name is Zarianna Williams. I had the perfect life. I was popular, had a rich family, was the head cheerleader, had an amazing boyfriend, and I had just scored a music deal. But that doesn't matter now, none of it matters. That's not my life anymore. Not since I was bitten.
I was on my way home from a friends party, walking to my car down the street from her house when it happened. I never saw them, they came out from behind a car and bit me. It didn't hurt, I actually never felt anything, I just blacked out.
When I woke up I was lying on a park bench on the other side of town. My car was there, on the curb right next to me. Someone was inside it staring at me. I tried to stand, but my legs would not support me. That was when the stranger got out of my car and walked up to me.
Up close I saw that the stranger was a girl, just a little older than me. She had jet black hair that fell in waves around her small, thin shoulders. Her eyes were a fading red color that looked like drying blood.
"Who are you?" I asked in a wavering voice.
"My name is Marisol," the girl answered plainly. "You have been bitten by a vampire, another fledgling to be precise, and if you don't want to end up like him, biting and changing someone from your past life, you will leave go into hiding and stay there for at least a year," she threw me the keys to my car.
"Get out of here,"she commanded.
I got up and stumbled to the drivers side of my car. Then I looked at Marisol. Her eyes had cooled a dark brown.
"What do you mean I was bit by someone from my old life?" I asked suddenly worried.
"You were from their old life not the other way around," she answered simply. "You two will meet again, your sire bond will make sure of it."
"Sire what?" I asked. She never answered, she just disappeared.
I got into the car wondering what had just happened I didn't believe anything she had just said, but if I did, it sure as hell wouldn't have just left my life. My perfect, normal life. I just went home. I took a long, hot shower and tried to clear my head before I went to bed.
When I woke up I was fine, but I could hardly remember the night before. It was a Saturday so I didn't bother getting dressed.
I just walked downstairs to grab some coffee and a book from the library and walked back up to my room to sit on the balcony. I did this every Saturday morning. Most of the other houses were buzzing as maids, cooks, and gardeners started to work.
We didn't have a cook and our maid would only come and clean our house on her off day of working for someone else.
When I was younger I would ask why we didn't have a full staff. My mother would always tell me that our house was too small. My house was not big compared to my neighbors, but we lived in a fenced neighborhood that only really had mansions.
My house was a four story house, including the fully furnished attic and basement. When I had finished my coffee I was ready to go inside and truly start my day. I had chosen a pair if dark wash denim skinny jeans and a white tank top covered by a leather jacket that I had just recently found in the back of my closet. I was going to see my boyfriend, Triston, for lunch and couldn't wait.
Triston had said to meet him at Tonys for lunch at noon. Tonys was our usual meeting place as well as the major hang out place of the whole town. I had gotten a booth in the dark corner of the restaurant and was waiting when Triston walked in. He smiled and sat down across from me.
"Hey!" I said. "Where were you last night?" He asked me. I looked at him thoughtfully. "I went home early, wasn't feeling very good," I replied coolly, trying to hide the fact that I didn't know exactly what happened last night. "Well you could have told me, I would have driven you home," he replied with genuine concern. "Nah it's okay," I said. "Well lets get something to eat." "Sure, what do you want?" He asked. "Split a fry?" I offered.
We got a medium fry and started to eat them. Half way through though I started to feel sick. I got up and ran to the bathroom and threw up. When I felt better I walked back out toward Triston.
"Zari, are you okay?" He asked. I shook my head. "I think I should just go home," I said truthfully. "Okay, call me if you need any thing," he said to me looking a little disappointed.
I never got used to that look he always gave me, big brown puppy-dog eyes that looked so sad. I always thought I would get used to it, but I never have. I left and went home, still feeling kind of sick to my stomach.
When I got home there was a car in my driveway. It wasn't my mother's white Porsche or my father's cherry Ferrari. It was a royal blue bug and the girl from last night was standing next to it. I pulled in and go out of my car.
"Why are you here," I asked immediately irritated. "I was about to ask you the same thing," she answered curtly. "What do you mean? I live here," I retorted. "I thought I told you to get out of here," she said mildly, looking at her perfect, long nails. "Look I am so not in the mood to do this right now," I said walking up to my house.
"Lemme guess," she said, no longer interested in her nails. "You tried to eat something, you threw up, you could not pay attention to anything, your throat is burning, and you temper is shortening." All of a sudden I felt it my throat was burning terribly.
"Why? Why is it happening?" I asked suddenly scared. "You need blood, or you could try a doctor, explain to them why you have no pulse," Marisol replied chuckling darkly. "Where do I get it?" I asked desperately. The burning had gotten worse.
"You will most likely have a hard time keeping it down if its not from the vain," she answered, casting her gaze to the neighbor's gardener, a stick thin man that only spoke Spanish. "What if I kill him?" I inquired worriedly. "Would you feel better if I told you I would watch," she asked. "I won't help you but I'll watch." "I'm good," I answered quickly. Finally the burning became to much and I ran, at an inhuman speed, toward the unsuspecting gardener. I basically went into auto pilot as instincts I didn't know I had kicked in. When I stopped the man slid down the wall and just sat their not moving. I freaked out! What if I killed him! What if I didn't and he became a vampire! Out of nowhere I heard clapping and whipped around to see Marisol walking up. "I have never met a fledgling with such restraint!" She said laughing. "Does that mean I didn't kill him?" I asked shyly. "Nah he just lost a little blood," she replied. "Oh, and he blacked out immediately, a, well, a poison comes out of your fangs when you bite into someone, knocks them out instantly." She handed me a tissue and compact mirror. "Clean yourself up," she said strictly. I looked into the mirror and saw that their were to lines of blood going from the corners of my mouth to my chin. I also noted that my normally blue eyes were the scarlet color of blood. "What now?" I asked Marisol. "You pack up your clothes, break your phone, grab a credit card, max it out for cash, get on a plane to..." I cut in. "What do you mean? I have to leave?" "I though we talked about this. You can't stay here, but I think you will like Italy, it's easier than you think to learn Italian," she said walking up to my house. I opened the door and walked in. Halfway into the kitchen I turned around to find her still standing in the doorway. "You need to invite me in," she said frankly. "Oh, okay. Come in?" I said questioningly. "We can't go into houses we haven't been invited into," she answered my unasked question.
