I run downstairs, tripping on the last step of our wooden paneled stairs. I woke up at 8:43, my school starts at 9:30, but the bus picks us up at 9. Thank God that today is the last day of school.
I barely notice my older sister standing by her bedroom door. As soon as she sees me she gives a groan and slams the door. The wooden beads that decorate her door rattle against the wall.
I don't even care anymore, she does that all the time. Just because I may have embarrassed her in front of her long-time crush, Aimery, doesn't mean that she needs to be a brat! I mean, that's was months ago!
I rush down the hallway to get to the kitchen. 8:45. I grab the first thing I see in the pantry, which happens to be a strawberry pop tart. I pop it in the toaster and pull down the lever. I don't look to see how long.
I scramble upstairs to get dressed, I'm so panicked and tired that I don't watch where I'm going. Then, SMACK! I run straight into my sister, uh-oh. She looked down at me, there was a time when we were younger that we were the same height but then she had a major growth spurt and now she's really tall and skinny.
She glowers at me, I can smell her heavy perfume, my nose starts to inch like crazy, and of course she is wearing a full mask of makeup. I don't think that she goes anywhere without the makeup."Really? You just had to run into me before school time?!" I can see her perfect white teeth as she snarls.
I want to snap back at her, but I know it's no use, I'll just end up wasting my time. Thinking about time, I quickly check my watch. I have time, but I just don't feel like arguing. I slip into my room and in a minute or two, I hear her door slam shut. I've started reading this book called Red Queen and it's so cool how she goes undercover to the monarchy. I love spies, they're so suave and level headed.
I have about 5 minutes, so I decide to go see what my sister is doing just to annoy her.
I peak in my sister's room and I immediately see the pink and yellow walls we picked out as children covered with pictures of the past summer. Pictures of us at the beach, us at the movie themed amusement park, and, what seemed to be the majority, herself with her old boyfriend, Adam. I don't know why she still hasn't gotten over him! I mean he dumped her! Teenagers, no one understands them.
I see her at her desk, mindlessly rummaging through her desk drawers. I take a step back, uh-oh, the wooden beads tremble as I sneak back to the safety of my room. She notices me and immediately she scowls, "You little twerp! What are you doing in my room?!"
I scramble to think of a response, "I wanted to see how you're doing?"
Clearly that wasn't what she wanted to hear, "GET OUT!"
I don't even try to reason with her, I'm too busy running to my room.
In a minute or two I decide to go and finish getting ready for school. I race downstairs, on my way out then I grab my pop tart.
"Bye Mom!" I yell as I slip on my favorite sweater. "Bye dad!"
I slip out the door and the wind hits me immediately. I feel the leaves crunch under my feet, I look up to brightly colored jackets.
My friend Mona catches sight of me and starts waving. I watch as the bus appears over the road ahead.
The bus is a blur of noise, the bus driver shouting, the kids screaming, music blaring, and cars honking. I watched outside the window as my friends chattered and gossiped. Finally we arrived at the school. I breeze through the first 2 out of three classes. Then that's when the twist came.
