Nevermore

Chapter 5

I shuddered with anger. They were going to hurt innocent people through me. I couldn't let them take me. I glanced at them, Grayson was looking at me expectantly, wanting me to want to be turning into a monster. I looked at the balcony which led to the outdoors, I didn't have to look down to know it was a long ways down.

Death was better than the alternative. I had made my decision.

"No." I turned to them again, "I will not let you destroy the world through me. I will not let you turn me into a monster." I had never felt so sure of a decision in my life.

"What did you just say?" Grayson's voice was carefully controlled, but low and dangerous. "You could have the world in your palm, everything would be yours."

"No." I tried to keep my voice steady and controlled, but it was hard to with a 10 foot dragon staring you down.

"Guards! Grab her!" Grayson yelled, the dragon beside him roared, adding to the noise.

Instantly guards were rushing in from all sides of the room. I saw my opportunity, I raced to the doors. Gunshots were pelting the glass. I saw the glass weaken, anytime now.

The glass shattered, glass came down like frozen rain. My shoulder was bleeding and my legs were being cut up by the glass. I didn't stop, I knew this would end with death.

The world went in slow motion, the dragon roaring, unable to move because of being trapped between the ceiling and the floor.
Guards shouting and firing blindly, Grayson yelling and trying to stop the guards from shooting me, glass raining down on all of us, and me. Running down to the balcony, I barely looked down. I knew what I had to do to save everyone from who I could become.

I climbed up to the edge of the railing, my foot slipped over the edge. I regained my balance. The guards all stopped shooting as Grayson walked over to me.

He held out his hands in a surrender, "I don't want you to get hurt," yeah right, "just come down and we can work this out."

He sounded so convincing I almost did. Almost.

I turned my head to face the skyline. "You people are monsters, everyone of you."

And with that I went over the edge.
