‘Pudding!’ I heard a girl’s voice scream as I passed the entrance to a park while I was on my nightly walk. ‘Mint, help!’ the voice continued.
I stopped and thought whether to see what was going on or if it was better to run back home or run to the police. I turned my head to look into the park. I couldn’t see anyone but I could hear something going on.
It was then, when I heard a girl scream, that I bolted into the park and followed the sounds. I stopped at the scene of what looked like a fight going on. But it wasn’t a normal fight. Five girls, I counted, were there. All of them were wearing strange outfits I had never seen before; each one a different color. I stood still with my mouth slightly open. I couldn’t move. What should I have done? I had never seen anything like it.
Another girl screamed. She had been hit by a huge, deformed horse. It looked evil. Like a monster. It was green and had glowing yellow eyes. It didn’t seem real.
‘Zakuro, quickly! Get to – ‘ The girl in pink started but couldn’t finish her sentence as the mutated horse had hit her. She was sent flying towards the thickest tree in the park. Everyone sat under it during the day as it provided the most shade. THUD! She flopped to the ground hard and didn’t bother to get up. I was afraid she had passed out from the impact. I had no idea what to do.
‘Ahh, what do we have here?’ a male’s voice suddenly said from behind me. They wrapped their arms around my waist and hoisted me up. My feet were no longer on the ground and neither was the person’s behind me. Were we flying? I hooked my hands over his arms for support, feeling that I would fall at any moment. ‘What’s your name, sweetie?’
‘What’s going on?’ I cried out, thinking I was about to cry.
‘You’re going to be the new addition to my band of super-villains!’
‘Super what? What are you – ‘
‘Hey! Leave her alone!’ the girl in blue yelled out below. ‘What do you need her for?’
‘Oh, you’ll see my little blue bird.’ The boy holding me called back at her.
All in a split second, it felt like he let go of me and I would soon be dead on the ground, but he turned me around to face him and pushed me away. I was still in mid-air and five feet of space separated this green haired boy from me.
We made eye contact just before I started feeling like someone was pulling something from out of my chest. They were pulling hard and my head didn’t know what to do but my body did. Floating in the air, now facing the stars, I kicked the air and did a back-flip, feeling stronger as every second passed by. I was stuck in mid-air and could no longer see my surroundings. My arms dangled down, my chest was heaving out and my head hung back. I didn’t know what was happening and I was frightened.
All of a sudden there was a whipping sound and the feeling of something ripping out of my chest had stopped and wind was rushing past my ears. My eyes shot open and the ground was coming up on me fast. I faced the ground; arms out and bent legs. I closed my eyes and the sensation of falling had stopped. I felt stable. A chorus of gasps’ started all around me. All was silent. I opened my eyes again and looked up to see the girl in pink waking up by the thick tree and struggling to get to her feet.
What were these people? They were half animals and this guy could fly. Was I dreaming? Do I remember leaving the house tonight?
‘Could she be?’ I heard one of the girl’s say. I was still watching the girl in pink. She was on her feet and had a hand on her head, looking down. She stood up straight and noticed me. Her eyes widened and I realized I had landed on the ground without a single scratch. I looked down and started to get up. Everything was silent once again. The monster didn’t even make a sound. I stood up straight and glanced around at everyone.
