‘You know, I think I can say aloud that I am a Mew. I don’t think I’m afraid to admit it. I think I like it. All the action and fighting! But that Kisshu boy, he really gets on my nerves.’ Luka was saying as our house came into vision.
‘Yeah,’ I agreed, not really listening. I had cooled off a little from Ryou’s stupid words. ‘Do you think if we went on a hunt for this girl, you would recognize her?’ We walked through the front gate of our house and started up the door.
‘I think so,’ she said, thinking.
‘Well, tomorrow we’re going to the museum, remember? So we’ll start looking for her the day after.’
‘Oh, I forgot we were going to the museum,’ Luka said sadly, as I opened the front door and let her walk in first.
‘It’s a cool museum. It has stuff about endangered animals; like the ones that we’re a part of. My Giant Panda and your Arctic Fox.’
‘Very interesting,’ she said sarcastically before running upstairs.
The next day I had organized a Sister’s Day Out; just Luka and me out for the whole day. Since she never really had any money, lunch and snacks were all on me but I didn’t mind spending almost all of my money on her. It was her smile of pure happiness I wanted to see; I didn’t care about the money. And besides, I had a job now; a good job I actually liked going to, despite the presence of a certain someone I did not want to think about.
But before the day for sisters started, I got a shock by something I thought I would never see in my lifetime, something I hadn’t ever thought about.
I dragged my feet along the carpet of my room and then slid along the cold, smooth floor of my bathroom. I rubbed my eyes and turned on my hair iron; my hair was crazily puffed out and curly so I didn’t see them at first. But when I started to brush my hair, my eyes half closed and stinging from the sleep and cold morning air, I felt them. I thought at first that it was my Panda ears that had popped out but they felt different. They were lower, where my human ears should be, and they weren’t fluffy. I rubbed my eyes harder, wanting to know what it was as soon as possible, and when I caught sight of them, I yelped and jumped back. From the surprise, my Panda ears appeared and the other ones disappeared instantly.
‘What was that?’ I whispered to myself, looking closer into the mirror and checking out my human ears. ‘They couldn’t have been real,’ I tried to make myself believe it but a part of me knew it had been real. I had ears just like the ones Kisshu had. What?
When I got ready for the day, the cyniclon ears I had seen myself have slipped from my mind completely.
Sometime during the day, having lunch at the museum, a certain someone popped into my mind I had completely forgotten; a boy that went to my school that I had had a crush on since I could remember. I paused in eating my ice cream cone as I stared at his smiling face in my mind.
‘Onee-chan, what’s wrong?’ Luka asked as she licked her chocolate ice cream cone.
‘Nothing. I just remembered something. Not important. You want a drink?’ I rummaged through my Batman bag for my purse as Luka told me what drink she wanted.
It was a completely normal day and we were having fun all the way up to the part when Luka tugged on my arm while I was reading the information on a silver plate about an extinct species I was moderately interested in.
‘Sakuranbo!’ she whispered urgently.
I turned to her, confused. ‘What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost!’ I said, noticing her unusual paleness.
