CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Suzanne couldn't concentrate on her classes. Her mind kept repeating last night. She had lost control. Maybe even her mind.

After the Demon had attacked her in the church, Suzanne had been rendered unconscious. The pain was excruciating. A Pastor had found her and called the hospital. She returned to her dorm room this morning.

After taking a nice, hot shower, Suzanne felt relaxed and refreshed. She then made a pact that she would never lose herself like that again. She couldn't let the Demon get what it wanted.

Tanya had also called her this morning, stating that Kathrine was okay. It was also revealed to her that Mrs. Winters had gotten over her small seizure. Suzanne was planning to visit her again soon.

Finally, the bell rang and Suzanne stood up and walked out of her class. She met Cassandra whilst walking to the coffee shop down the street.

Cass looked different. Her eyelids were red and swollen.  Her cheeks were puffy. She looked like she had tried to brush her dark red hair, but had just given up halfway through the process.

'Hey, Suzanne. How are you feeling?' she asked.

'I'm okay. The doctors said I was just confused and stressed. That's why I fainted. But, Cassandra, what happened to you?' Suzanne asked in concern.

'Is it that obvious?' Cass asked with a small smile.

'Let's go get some coffee,' Suzanne suggested.

Both girls walked to the coffee shop named "Caffeine Addiction". They sat by one of the small round tables by the window. Suzanne ordered a Pumpkin Spice Latte and Cassandra ordered plain black coffee. After the girls were served, Cassandra took a deep breath and began.

'Do you remember Brian?' she asked.

'Yeah, isn't he your ex?' asked Suzanne.

'That's the one,' Cass said quietly, looking down at her coffee. 'Something's happened to Brian.'

'Oh no,' Suzanne said worriedly. 'Is he okay?'

'He wasn't in an accident,' Cass sighed. 'He-- something's happened to his mind.'

'Wh-What do you mean?' Suzanne stammered in confusion.

'He's-- I think Brian has become obsessed with me.'

Suzanne's eyes widened. Cassandra continued.

'Ever since last week I've been seeing more and more of him. He doesn't speak to me, just stands and stares. He'd been getting closer and closer each day. And then, last night,' --Cass took a deep breath--'I woke up and he was standing over my bed.'

Suzanne gasped. 'Oh my gosh! What happened?'

'I screamed at him and told him to get out. He said he loved me. That only made me more mad, and I threatened to call the cops. That's when he left.'

Cass burst into tears. 'I don't know what happened to him! Just the other day he seemed to be okay.'

Suzanne didn't know what to say. She absentmindedly patted Cassandra's hand. Cass quickly pulled a powder out of her purse and patted some on her face. She looked in her pocket mirror and wiped away her runny mascara with a napkin.

'Cassandra,' Suzanne began. 'Maybe it would be best to call the police, maybe Brian needs serious help.'

'I could never do that to him,' Cass said. 'We've been friends ever since I can remember. Plus, there's never been a history of mental illness in his family.'

'Maybe--'

Cass cut Suzanne's sentence. 'I was just overreacting. Brian's just heartbroken, that's all.'

She stood up. 'Well, thanks for listening. I have to go now.'

'Bye,' Suzanne said. She couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen. Suzanne quietly finished her latte as she watched Cass walk down the street, worry clouding her thoughts.

Caleb had already died, she couldn't loose yet another friend.

Wait a minute, why had that thought come to her head? Suzanne stood up in fear. Why did she feel like Cassandra was about to die?

***

She hates you

'No, she doesn't,' he answered aloud, although he knew the voice was in his head.

Brian was in his dorm room, sitting on his bed. His roommate, Lorenzo, had gone on vacation for a whole month. He was alone with his thoughts. He sat in a heap on his bed, wearing only his boxers. His dark blond hair was disheveled and unwashed.

Ever since Cassandra had broken up with him, he couldn't get her out of his mind. He started having dreams about her, which evolved into elaborate day-dreaming fantasies.

Then came the voice. It was such a soothing voice. He was compelled to do whatever it said to him.

You went into her room last night. She became scared. She hates you.

'You told me to do that!' Brian argued, slapping his palm against his forehead.

Maybe she's seeing someone else

Brian gasped as the thought came to him. Could it be true?

'Who?' he asked through gritted teeth. 'WHO IS IT?'

An elaborate vision came to him, as clear as day. Cass was moaning in pleasure.

Tears rimmed Brian's eyes. Cass was having sex with someone. The only reason she had broken up with Brian was because he's wanted sex. How could she do this to him?

The person making Cass moan kissed her.

Tears streamed down Brian's face.

It was Cass' new friend. That bitch! What was her name?

Suzanne, the voice whispered.

Brian clenched his hands into fists, unaware that his overgrown fingernails were digging into his palms.

Yes, that's right, the voice said soothingly. Embrace the rage.

'She's with someone else', Brian said angrily. 'She hates me. I'm the only one that can touch her!'

Preserve your love.

'Huh? How?' Brian asked, the dried tears making his face feel sticky.

If you can't have Cassandra, no one can. And take revenge on Suzanne. Kill the bitches.
