CHAPTER EIGHTEEN.
Suzanne sat at the back of the ambulance, a blanket wrapped around her.
An Indian reporter in a business suit stood infront of the sorority house, speaking about what happened. Suzanne could only pick up bits and pieces of what she was saying.
'What authorities are calling the Sorority House Massacre. Five girls and one male were brutally murdered by suspect Brian Lancaster, who was supposedly suffering from schizophrenia.'
Suzanne zoned out for a moment. Everything became a blur in her head, all the sounds fuzzy. She was just so tired. Tired of fighting. Suzanne just wanted to give up.
'There are two survivors- Suzanne Jensen and Cassandra Blaire.'
At first Suzanne thought she was hearing things, so she started listening intently to the reporter.
'Miss Blaire was taken to the Newtown Public Hospital, since she had fallen two stories. Two ribs and her leg are broken and she suffered trauma to the head, but doctors say there is a 100% chance that she will live without any lifelong disabilities.'
'She's...alive,' Suzanne whispered, tears of relief streaming down her face.
Maybe since Cass was alive, then the ritual would be broken. But then a horrible thought came to Suzanne's head. What if she wasn't meant to save Cass? Maybe Cass was never meant to die.
'Shit,' she mumbled.
She was supposed to save Brian! He was the one Insanity had been targeting. If she had prevented his death, then Insanity would have lost. But Brian was dead...Insanity has still won.
'At least I know one person is alive,' Suzanne sighed.
'One girl- Victoria Harrison, remains missing,' the reporter continued.
Suzanne didn't know what happened to Victoria. One moment she was there, and then when Brian and Cass fell through the window, Suzanne realized that Victoria had vanished. At first she thought Victoria had run away in fear, but then when the authorities called the University and inquired, no one could find Victoria. It's not like Victoria had run to someone's house to get help, since she would've returned by now. Basically, no one had any idea what happened to Victoria.
Suzanne heard someone call her name. At first she thought it was just her imagination, but she heard the voice again, more clearly this time.
Tanya was walking quickly towards her. Her short black hair with the red highlights was no longer short. Her hair had now grown a little below her shoulders. Tanya wore a plain black t-shirt and black skinny jeans.
Suzanne's first thought was that her eyes were deceiving her. What would Tanya be doing here, anyways? But she found herself standing up, tears streaming down her face. When she embraced Tanya, she realized that the girl was real, and not just a figment of her now disoriented imagination.
Tanya didn't seem to care that the front of Suzanne's shirt was covered in dried blood, or even notice.
A pretty police officer walked up to the girls. 'Suzanne, would you like a ride back to campus?'
'No, I'm her sister. I can give her a ride,' Tanya spoke up.
The officer nodded and walked away. Tanya started leading Suzanne to her car.
'Y-You have a license?' Suzanne asked, surprised.
'Of course not,' Tanya said.
Suzanne saw Aunt Lisa's car parked by the sidewalk. Aunt Lisa was busy pacing back and forth. As soon as she saw Suzanne, she ran to her and hugged her.
'Oh my god, are you okay?' she asked. 'We were driving to campus when we heard about the massacre on the radio. When we heard you were also there I almost drove off the road!'
'Why were you guys coming in the first place?' Suzanne asked.
Tanya and Aunt Lisa shared a glance.
'Let's drive you back to campus and get you all cleaned up first,' Aunt Lisa said.
***
After all the blood was washed away and Suzanne was in a comfortable pair of sweatpants, everyone sat down and Tanya began.
'Kathrine's possessed.'
Suzanne's hands immediately covered her mouth as her eyes widened.
'And now we can't find her,' Tanya continued. 'She attacked me, and I knocked her out. We tied her down to her bed and Aunt Lisa went to get a Priest. When we came back, she was gone.'
'We have to save her!' Suzanne exclaimed.
'Of course. That's why we're here,' Aunt Lisa said. 'I've booked three plane tickets for tonight. We're going back to the old house to get the book.'
'Where did you hide it again?' Tanya asked.
'Kat and I buried it in the backyard,' Suzanne explained. 'When we get there, what are we gonna tell the new residents?'
'We'll figure that out on the flight. Now, pack your things,' Tanya said firmly.
