Mia's POV
A file slammed down onto my desk and I jumped out of my day dream.
I looked up and Jack was staring down at me.
"What the hell?" I asked him.
"Where the hell is your head at?" He asked me.
No way in hell was I going to tell him that Matt is the only thing that's been going through my head since I last saw him.
It's only been three days, but it feels like month.
"I'm trying to focus on my job. But my pain in the ass boss keeps bugging me." I snapped back.
"Wow. Someones touchy. Boyfriend not satisfying you?" Jack taunted.
"I am more than able to satisfy her. Thanks though." A deep voice came from behind me.
I turned quickly and couldn't help the smile that came across my face.
"Matt, what are you doing here?" I asked, standing up and going over to him.
He pulled me into his arms and hugged me tightly.
And for the first time in three days, I felt settled and relaxed.
Matt pressed a kiss to my lips and I completely forgot I was at work.
My arms wrapped around his neck and I pulled him tightly to me, kissing him back with just as much enthusiasm.
I heard a throat clear and I realized our kiss was probably not appropriate for the work place.
I broke away from Matt and turned back to Jack.
"Uh, Matt this Jack, my boss. Jack, this is Matt, my…uh Matt." I said nervously.
Matt's arm went around my waist and he pulled me close before sticking his hand out to Jack.
They shook hands and I could see they were each sizing each other up.
Oh boy.
This is not a good idea.
"So you're the guy that's captured all of Mia's attention. Me and her go way back." Jack said with a grin.
I could've punched him in the face for that.
Just the way he said it, insinuated so much.
Matt looked down at me and I didn't really know what to say.
"So babe, I came to take you out to lunch. Are you free to go?" Matt said, completely ignoring Jack.
"Yeah, definitely. I'm starved anyway." I told him, bending under my desk to grab my bag.
When I straightened up I saw that Matt had moved in front of me and was blocking Jack's view of me.
That stupid ass was probably staring at my ass when I bent down.
And he did it in front of Matt!
Man is he going to get it when I get back from lunch.
"See you in forty-five minutes Jack." I told him, taking the hand Matt had outstretched to me.
His fingers laced through mine and I smiled when he pulled me close.
"Don't you think you should ask your boss if it's okay to go?" Jack asked cockily.
I turned to him and pierced with my most angry gaze.
"Fine. If you insist. Jack, I'm going to lunch since I've been working five straight hours without having consumed anything. And since you're so concerned about my health, I'm taking an hour lunch." I said, turning my back on him and walking with Matt out the door.
"What the hell is his deal?" Matt asked me.
And his question stumped me.
Do I tell him about me and Jack's history?
Since we're not seeing each other anymore does it even matter?
I didn't know the answer to that question.
"I don't know. He's always been a jackass. It's part of his personality." I told him.
He seemed to be appeased by that answer.
Hopefully, this will be the last time I hear of it.
"So, I've been wanting to ask you about something." Matt said as we walked down the street towards a shopping center and food court.
"Go ahead." I encouraged him.
"My friends have been dying to meet you. Did you want to meet up with us tonight and play pool? Get to know them?" Matt asked, his voice full of hope.
I couldn't help but smile.
He wants me to meet his friends.
That's a good sign.
At least I think it is.
"You don't have to. Really. It's not that big of a deal." Matt said after a few moments of silence.
"No! I'm sorry. I was just thinking I'm happy you want me to meet your friends. That's awesome and I would love to meet up with you guys tonight and play pool." I told him.
His grin was so big it made me smile as well.
He's so cute.
"You're gonna have so much fun. We're a little overwhelming at first, but you'll get used to it." Matt said happily.
I couldn't help the happiness that flowed through me at his words.
Cause I could definitely get used to seeing him so happy, and knowing I'm the reason for it.
