Chapter 17
"They don't know how long it takes
Waiting for a love like this
Every time we say goodbye
I wish we had one more kiss."
"Lucky we're in love in every way, lucky to have stayed where we have stayed." My voice filled the house early in the morning as I swept downstairs, smiling like an idiot.
Oh shut up, Cass.
I was happy, very happy at that. I was falling in love with Lyle, and love spelled so many emotions that it left me all jittery and tingly every second. And ugh, I just couldn't help but think about Lyle. His smile, the sweet, nonsense texts he had been sending me yesterday.
"You're up early." grandma said, yawning as she filled my bowl of Corn Flakes with warm milk.
"Just really eager to go to school, that's all." I replied, giving her a smile.
"Could it be that you're glad your parents went home already?" she said, eyeing me suspiciously. Snorting, I started eating the cereals and shook my head.
Okay, so maybe a part of me was glad that my parents went back to New York already, since they had spent too much time with me while their paper works crammed in their offices.
I finished my breakfast five minutes later, and I was finished brushing my teeth, an unusual amount of butterflies fluttering around my stomach as I saw Lyle's car appear outside the house.
He's just picking you up, that's all.
"Bye, grandma!" I shouted, although I knew she wouldn't hear since she was in her room. I was almost jumping to Lyle's car a few seconds later, eager to see him. I breathed a few short breaths even though my heart was racing. I stopped in my tracks as I saw Lyle on my side of the door, casually leaning on it as he ran a hand through his hair.
Kill me now.
How was it even possible that his very face was legal in the world? How was it even possible for his parents to produce such a handsome offspring? How?! Thank God for his alleles and chromosomes and genes and genotype!
I continued to stare at him, scanning him from head to toe. He was wearing his worn vans, dark jeans, blue shirt, and black leather jacket. And as usual, his hair was a beautiful mess. I realized I was probably drooling at him since he was clearing his throat, a smirk tugging on the corners of his lips. My eyes widened as I bit my lip and stared at the ground, unsure of what to say. I heard Lyle's footsteps as he neared me, and I felt his hand pull my backpack away from me, and he slung it on his shoulder instead. I looked up at him as he opened my door, saying nothing. I went in, completely puzzled. Why wasn't he saying anything?
We arrived at school a few minutes later, and Lyle opened my door, carried my backpack, and together, we went inside the school campus. We were walking in the hallway, still silent.
What the hell was happening? Was he regretting everything that happened? I knew we weren't officially together, but was this his way of rejecting me?
Sighing in frustration, I pulled Lyle's collar and slammed him on the brick wall of the hallway, my eyes piercing into his green ones. I felt my bag skitter to the floor as Lyle looked at me in shock. I looked around and found that the hallway was empty, thank God. I didn't want anyone to see me physically harassing someone.
"Lyle, are you- rejecting me? Do you regret what happened? Because I don't! It was one of the best nights of my life, Lyle! The very best, and I don't want you to ruin it by showing to me that you're not even freaking interested-"
