Chapter 19
"Marly almost killed me last night." Lyle's voice sounded numb on the phone. I yawned and stared at the ceiling, a small smile on my lips.
"I would wonder why she didn't." I murmured to him, transferring my phone on my left ear. Lyle let out a soft, wonderful chuckle.
"And then you'd have to be alone, without me?"
I let out a snort. "I can live with it." I lied, closing my eyes as the early sunshine bathed my skin, the sunlight pouring out from my window.
"Ouch. I can't imagine a world without you, Cass. I love you too much that I can't even imagine what it would be like if I wasn't with you."
There were cannons inside my stomach now, making heat rush into my cheeks.
"I don't know what to say." I said after a few seconds, grinning like an idiot. I realized after a few seconds that Lyle was silent, and I could only hear crumpling on the other line. I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion and sat up, letting out a sigh.
"Lyle, are you there?"
But a knock on my window answered my question. But no, it wasn't a knock. Grunting, I pushed the covers off my body and opened my window, my damp hair sticking to my skin as heat welcomed me, the wind emitting hot air. I let out a screech as my bare foot stepped on a rock. Then I realized there were pieces of rocks on my terrace. Someone was throwing rocks on my window.
"Let down your hair, Rapunzel!" Lyle's voice made my ears perk up. Shaking my head and laughing, I peeked outside and found him near the bushes, staring up at me with a wide smile on his face.
"O Lyle Ferguson, wherefore art thou, Ferguson?" I exclaimed, flashing him a grin.
"I SAID LET DOWN YOUR HAIR!" he yelled, raising his arms.
"I'm going to jump out of this window, Lyle!" I replied, my hands on the sides of the window as I perched on it, grinning at him.
Lyle's eyes widened and he was shaking his head vigorously. I laughed inwardly since I had already jumped out the window countless times just for fun. I took a deep breath and let go of my grip on the window, freefalling with my feet on the ground, laughing. But Lyle's arms were around me before my feet hit the ground, his arms behind my knees, and my head on his chest, his eyes looking worried and shocked.
"Dammit Cass!" he yelped as I felt his heart racing against my skin.
"Sorry." I whispered, planting a kiss on his cheek and dropping from his arms. I smiled as he flushed red, scratching the back of his neck as his eyes flickered to the ground.
"You're blushing!" I exclaimed, popping in front of him and smacking him on the shoulder.
"Yeah, whatever." he mumbled, his green eyes meeting mine. "Can I get a kiss now?" he blurted, giving me a crooked smile.
I pointed a finger at him. "You already had one!"
"Alright, alright-" he paused, raising his arms in surrender. "Well then! Let's go begin our summer bucket list."
☂☂☂
"Are you ready?" Lyle said to me as he shoved the can of the papers of our lists to be done that summer in front of my face. I closed my eyes and put my hand in the can, grabbing the paper I came in contact with. I opened my eyes and opened the blue piece of paper, realizing it was Lyle's.
"Dart a wall of balloons filled with paint." I said, raising my eyebrows. I threw the paper at him. "You wasted one in your list for that?"
Lyle pinched my cheeks, rubbing his nose on my mine, which made me squirm, blushing.
"It's going to be fun, I tell you."
Lyle's definition of fun was a dozen balloons filled with paint. We were in his garage, the balloons hung on one wall splattered with paint and varnish. I rolled my eyes at Lyle then laughed as he darted a balloon, making it pop and spray on his black shirt.
"MY TURN!" I exclaimed, throwing my dart and missing a balloon by an inch. I let out a groan as Lyle laughed at me, popping another balloon, which made paint spatter on my face. I glared at Lyle and popped the balloon nearest to him by poking it with the dart instead, making all the blue paint spray on his hair to his nose. I pursed my lips and kept myself from laughing out loud, seeing the spot on his nose. His mouth opened partially then he grabbed two balloons from the wall and threw it at me before I could react. I felt the paint soak my shirt and my shorts, making it feel heavy. I balled my fists and sprinted to the wall, grabbing three balloons and throwing it at Lyle as he ran away from me, laughing as he did. The second and third balloon hit his foot, then his left arm. As he wiped away the paint from his skin, I grabbed two balloons, leaving one left. I ran behind a cabinet to take cover, cradling the balloons close to my chest like it were my babies.
"VICTORY IS MINE!" I yelled, appearing from my hiding place and throwing the balloons at Lyle who was right in front of me, his shirt hardly recognizable that it was black.
"YIELD YOU IN-"
POP!
Lyle smashed the remaining balloon on my head
On my head, which tainted my hair.
My hair.
I wiped the paint away from my forehead and raised my fist to punch Lyle, but he easily blocked it with his hand, opening my hand and intertwining his fingers with mine. He advanced onto me, while I backed away, and stepped backward, backward, backward until my back hit the wall.
I could feel the cold paint dig into my skin, while Lyle's eyes bored into mine, his face looking mysterious, evil, and... hot. He leaned his face closer to mine while I pressed my back on the wall, hoping to get as far away from his body as possible, despite the fact that I had the urge to kiss him already. Slowly, he pressed his lips on my cheek, his voice reverberating on my skin as he spoke.
"I win." he said in a slow, seductive voice.
And once again, I felt the gorillas cause riot in my stomach, and my head floating, my thoughts thinking about nothing but the feel of Lyle's lips on mine.
Stop, stop, stop-
But I didn't need to since I already felt a warm pair of lips on mine, and I closed my eyes immediately, knowing it was Lyle, and that-
Oh.
His kiss was addicting that I hated the taste of him, his warmth, and his smell. Not being able to control myself, I raked my hands through his hair which was sticky with paint, so my arms ended up wrapped around his neck, while his arms were slumped against the wall on either side of my head. His left hand slipped to my chin, tilting my head upwards while his other hand slowly made its way from my cheek, brushing it in an even more seductive way, until he stroked the back of my neck.
I just couldn't get enough of him.
I felt him smile against my mouth, and I let out a soft sigh as he pressed his body closer to mine, my head now leaning on the wall, my skin drowning in his warmth. Our lips moved in perfect sync, and I opened my mouth slightly as I felt his tongue lick my lower lip, making my stomach churn faster than a machine. He deepened the kiss as he tilted his head to the side, our tongues moving against each other, and I felt as if I was already in heaven.
Lyle let out a soft moan as I realized his hands were on my waist, lifting me up, and I took the cue to wrap my legs around his hips as he pressed me farther onto the wall.
Oh my gosh, my conscience moaned inside my head as our mouths worked like magic, making everything disappear for a moment. I felt so freaking lost in-
"I FUCKING KNEW IT!" A familiar voice shouted near the door.
My eyes flew open, and I let out a shocked gasp.
Oh my gosh.
It was Zara.
