After Darrel came back to us I knew he didn't want to leave. He came round everyday after he finished working, and took us out on the weekends, paying for anything we wanted to say sorry for running away. It felt like life was actually getting better.
Mum came home one day saying that she had found a job, Darrell, Clara and I all asked how as she was still too weak to do much, although she was getting better. She told us that as she was sitting in the park daydreaming about something or another a rather nice looking man tripped and dropped all the paperwork he was carrying. She helped him up and helped him to collect it all up, which took a while. After wards he sat down with her for a bit and they started talking, when he found out she didn't have a job he offered her one as his secretary right away. It would be just sitting at the desk most of the day making sure that people knew where to go. She wouldn't be the only one there so wouldn't have to do any walking around if she was feeling weak. It seems that our luck has finally turned around!
To celebrate mums job we went out for a meal to Witherspoons, Darrell insisted on paying for it. Mum starts her new job on Monday, the same day I get to go back to school after the whole kidnapped thing, that should be interesting.
When Monday finally arrived mum and I both got up early to make sure we were ready. Mum left about half an hour before me and went off to her new job, Clara had also already left leaving me alone for a bit. Just when I was getting ready to leave there was a knock at the door, I thought it would just be the post coming extremely early but when I opened the door it turned out to be Darrell.
"What on earth are you doing here? Aren't you meant to be in work?" I questioned.
"Well seeing as it's your first day back I thought you would rather a lift to school than to take the bus so I took some time off, I do own the company now anyway!" He replied. I have such a nice brother, apart from the fact he ran away for most of my life... But we've worked that out now.
By the time we got to school there was already hundreds of pupils outside chatting. I thanked Darrell for the lift and headed towards the main building to my form room. As soon as I walked in I was bombarded with questions, I ignored everyone and kept walking. I took a deep breath and stepped inside, all eyes were on me and silence fell onto the room. I quickly sat down at my desk, trying to ignore the stares, 'today will be fun' i thought sarcastically in my head, i wish Darrel didn't have to work and could just stay with me all day. We've gotten much closer since he's been back, it's as if we're making up for all the lost time. I hadn't realized how deep in thought i was until i heard the door crash open. I looked over to see Suzie, Cathie, and Stacie. The mean girls of the school. Nobody knew why their names all ended in ie, nobody dared question it. Cathie and Stacie scanned the room quickly spotting me. Cathie whispered something into Suzies ear causing her to turn her gaze towards me. 'Shit' i thought to myself, 'what now?'. She sauntered over to me, ignoring everyone else in the room. "So the little know-it-all's back now, after missing how long?" she jeered."I had reasons to be away" I shakily replied, afraid that i might anger the beast.
"Yes, i heard about that. Shame they found you really." Suzie scoffed "Don't get in my way, twerp" She sauntered to the back of the room where she and her minions sat, using the aisle as a mini runway. I wonder what's up with her? After that my day seemed to run relatively normal, a few teachers told me they were glad i was back, others told me how much work i had missed, Some didn't even seem to realize i was gone.
After the bell rang for the end of the day I began heading out to catch me, when out of the corner of my eye I saw a large crowd of people gathered round a car. My curiosity got the better of me and I went to see what was happening. I managed to push through the crown and burst through at the center, where a very familiar car happened to be. 'Seriously, did he have to do this' I thought to myself and then i heard him "EVE!" I turned and saw Darrel, "I thought you might like a lift back" he explained. Everyone's eyes were on me. "What the hell, how does she know him?" i heard a voice say from the massive crowd that was still growing "Sure, cheers" I said quietly to Darrel. He smiled and opened the door for me, i got in then he raced round and got in the other side. Turning to him i asked "Why did you do this? and of all the cars you own, why did you bring your Jag to a high school filled with teens who want a car just like this?"
He looked surprised, "I thought you might want a lift in the car rather than going on the bus, so i brought your favourite car, schools boring enough so why not spice it up a little?" he smirked as he revved the engine. He really was enjoying this a little too much.
