The Albert to my Batman

Ms.Hilee is staring at me and whispers harshly, “Really girl, one day you’re going to be found out. It doesn’t take an idiot to piece it together. I did, and they will to”

“I know Ms.Hilee. I was stupid last night. It’s not my fault he had a knife”

“Oh Hun, I’m sorry, but one day it’s going to be more than I can handle. I’m not your Albert to your Batman. I’m just the school nurse. I’m supposed to be treating bloody noses not gashes down to your bone!”

I sigh and wince as she pours disinfectant on the cut, “I know I was stupid, but OWW! I wasn’t the one who told you; you were the one who watched the news and pieced it together yourself, and just for the record you make an awesome Alber...Ow!” She pours the last of the disinfectant on the wound and I watch the pus come up clearing the cut. She rubs it with an alcohol soaked rag and gently dabs, “Alright Hun, I got most of it cleared up, but next time don’t let them get near you with a knife. Seriously I found chips of metal, and what looks like some techno thingy” She holds up what was underneath my skin. It’s small about half the size of my pinkie nail. I hack into the chip and scan the metal piece.

I see the wiring inside of it and the coding that it needs to break the safety lock. I sigh and grab a towel wiping the blood from the surface. It is not damaged, and Ms.Hilee is watching me, “You know the eyes still freak me out; just a bit. What is it?”

I sigh and tuck it in my pocket, “It’s a tracking chip. Whoever stabbed me last night wants to know where I went”

“I thought it was just a jail break”

I look down at the desk not willing to look at her, “Yeah but if it was a jailbreak; why and how did it happen? It’s obvious that it wasn’t just some nut who got the controls. This was a controlled jail break, but seriously. Why would they try to track me? I’m just...me”

She places her hand on my shoulder, “Dawn, you’re Bionicca! The one who saved this town and gave us hope. You stopped the crisis on the barge, the bomb in town hall, and the state bank robbery! Of course they want you; they want to study you. You have super strength, super speed, super intelligence, and I’d be willing to bet my stethoscope that you have other skills that you don’t even know about!” I look at her.

Ms.Hilee the only one in town who knows who I really am. She’s the type of person that you wouldn’t spare a second glance, but once you get to know her she becomes her personality; a bright shining star. I don’t even know why she’s a school nurse; she has a sort of average beauty that evolves into a more splendid attractiveness as you get to know her.

I know that many of the boys in this school just go to the nurse to talk with her. She has blonde locks that frame her face and soft chocolate eyes that express complete kindness.

“Dawn, I’m going to wrap your arm is that ok?”

I look at her with the gauze in her hands, “Yeah it’s fine. It should heal later tonight anyways”

She continues to talk while she wraps, “You know, you have the fastest healing rate that I have ever seen in a teenage girl, but I guess that’s because you’re special huh? You’re like this...” She trails off.

“Riddle wrapped inside an enigma wrapped inside of a taco?” I retaliate remembering this line from a show I like to watch.

She smiles and says, “Bingo. I remember last year you kept coming to me with stories about some underground thing, like the sewers, but when I asked for details you could never give any”

I look at her, “That’s because it’s all blank when I try to remember. It’s like this big wall in my mind blocking me from my ‘past’ life. I only get snippets, but when I try to focus on them I lose it. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I know it has something to do with where I was found”
