"Dad what's wrong?" I was worried about how frantic he was, he was usually calm but at this moment he wasn't.
I walked into the living room to see a woman who looked oddly familiar. "Marilyn, oh baby girl looked how much you've grown last time I saw you, you were this tall." She weighed her hand above the ground showing my height. "Aunty Drew?" "In the flesh sweetheart, but I bring news to bear." She was smiling but her eyes were sad. "Your father is being sent to the military, so your coming to stay with me."
Was she serious? I turned and faced my dad "Dad is she serious?" He put his head down. "DAD IS SHE SERIOUS, TELL ME SHES NOT FUCKING SERIOUS!" He finally looked me in the eye and I could feel the sad truth radiating off of him.
"You said you would never leave me again, I thought you would never be like her but look at you now-" Tears were running down my face by now ",You're no different you're just the same as everyone else in the world."
I ran to my room and slammed my door. My bed held nightmares but it was also my sacred place. I heard footsteps coming towards my room, I jumped off my bed sprinted to the door and locked it. I took a seat on the floor.
That was the last time I would let someone in.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner Mary, but you know I don't like being the bearer of bad news." It had nothing to do with that I was his daughter.
"But I should have told you anyways instead of being a coward" there was a crack in his voice, he was crying.
I opened the door and look at him. My father, who's life has been spent trying to protect me is now a broken soul. "I'm sorry Lenny." "I'm sorry Papa." He smiled.
"Do you hear me knocking?"
I grinned. "Then let me in" He opened his arms and I hugged him like it was the last one I would give him. He looked at my tear stained face and gave me a mischievous grin. "Your such a cry baby." I laughed "Whatever old man" He laughed a laugh so big it shook my heart. "Get packing Lenny, I'll see you before you leave okay?" I let go of him and he kissed me on my forehead. "Okay." "And hey, I love you, I'll see you later." I looked at the person who's been there the most "I love you too Papa I'll see you later." He walked away giving a me a smile. There was never a goodbye said because goodbye means forever, and I knew like he knew forever was a long time.
This chapter was probably one of the deepest chapters I have ever wrote, I mean I even had tears coming down my eyes.
