"Calum?" I ask after a long pause, my chest heaving uncomfortably into the wood floor.
"Yeah?" He hums.
"What's that sound?" I inquire.
"What sound?" Calum mutters. "I don't hear anything."
"Maybe if you shut up you'd hear it." I answer sarcastically.
"Ass." Calum mumbles. He sighs dramatically and listens. I roll over and sit up, look at him, seeing his eyebrows furrowing.
"That's......" Calum starts. He closes his eyes and listens closer. "A guy..... singing....."
Calum sits up as well and listens even closer. He stands up and goes to the window, opening it.
"It's a guy on the street playing guitar and singing." Calum sighs. I walk up behind him.
"He's quite good." I comment. Calum hums in agreement. "Though I can't hear what he's singing."
"He reminds me of Luke." Calum mumbles.
Luke. The guy that texted.
Wait, this is information. I could get some more.
"What, did Luke sing on the streets?" I ask.
"No, more like sang on the Internet. He had a certain voice when he sang when he was around 16 years old and that guy reminds me of it."
"Oh." I reply. "Does he still sing?"
"Nah." Calum sighs. "He quit after.... After something bad. I haven't even heard his normal voice since."
"Do you miss him?" I ask softly. Calum doesn't move from his spot in front of the window. His gaze stays fixed outside.
"As much as I should and want to say no... I can't lie." Calum whispers. "He was my brother."
"What about now?"
"What?" Calum turns to look at me. I don't move from my spot. We stand very close, starring into each other's eyes.
"Is he still your brother?" I clarify.
"I..." Calum trails off, not finishing his sentence.
"Let's break this down." I decide. "Do you still love him?"
"I don't know about lov-"
"Do you still care about him?" I interrupt.
"Yes."
"Does he still care about you?"
"No." Calum says instantly.
"How do you know?" I push.
"He wants me dead." Calum mutters, not meeting my gaze. "He wants you dead. He wanted Michael dead-"
"I can promise you he doesn't want you dead." I grab Calum's shoulders to force him to look at me.
"How can you promise that?" Calum says like a timid child discovering something unknown about the world. So innocent and sweet that I forget that I'm the one that's not supposed to know anything.
"He told me." I say quietly. "And he apologized to me."
"To you?" Calum scoffs.
"Calum, is Luke still your brother?" I change the topic.
Calum looks at me dead straight in the eye. He searched my eyes, my facial expression, my aura. He sighs.
"Luke is still my brother and he always will be, no matter how much the odds are against us. No matter how much he is or how much logic is or how much I am against us." Calum mutters. "One for each of us and one to keep us together."
Calum takes the silence as a chance to leave and he does. I look at my wrist.
"Are you really that important?" I whisper to the tattoo.
