"Stop squirming." I mumbled as I tried to put a batman shirt on Steven.
"No shirt!" He giggled as he fled my grip.
I sat on the floor and sighed as I watched Steven run around the living room screaming 'no shirt!' Over and over again. Steven was now three years old and didn't like to wear clothes. I rubbed my temples and tried to think of a way to get him to put on his shirt.
"Steven, you know big boys wear shirts."
That stopped him in his tracks. He was silent and motionless, thinking about what I had just said.
"Aunty I'm big boy!" He said as he pointed to himself.
"Mmm, I don't know about that, you don't like to wear shirts." I said as I began to smirk.
He stood there for a moment, like he was thinking this through. After a few minutes he came up to me and grabbed the shirt out my hands.
"Big boy." He mumbled as he struggled to put the shirt over his head.
"Here let me help you little buddy." I said as I adjusted the shirt.
"Thank you Aunty." He said as a big smile reached his lips.
Right then Haley walked in.
"Mommy!" He yelled as he ran towards her, arms out stretched.
"Hey sweetheart." She scooped him up and kissed him on the cheek.
"Hey you got a shirt on." She said as she pointed to his batman shirt.
"Big boy." He said as he pointed to himself and smiled.
"Yes you are Bub, now go play with your toys. I have to talk to Aunty Bay."
Haley put him down and he sped off towards his room. I laughed and got up to sit on the couch.
"So what's up?"
Haley sat down next to me and looked at me. I knew something was wrong by the look in her eyes. My smiled instantly turned into a frown.
"Haley what's wrong?"
She took a deep breath before she spoke, "You can't tell anyone okay? I promised Kayla I wouldn't say anything to anyone other than you."
I was confused but nodded. Kayla? What was up with Kayla?
"Well her and Harry...they broke up." She said, as sadness filled her eyes.
"What?!" I stood up quickly, and headed for the kitchen, looking for my car keys.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm going over to Kayla's. Ah there they are." I snatched my keys up and headed for the door.
"Bay no, she doesn't want to see anyone right now." She said, as she gently grabbed my arm.
"I don't care. She's like my sister and even if she wants to be alone she needs me." I said as I slipped out the door towards my car.
"Tell Destery where I am when he gets home and that I won't have my phone." I shouted out the window as I sped off towards Kayla's apartment.
Not even 15 minutes after I left I arrived at her apartment. Harry's car was no where in sight so I parked in his spot. I opened the door and took two steps at a time up to her floor.
As I got to her door I banged on it.
"Kayla open up its Bay. I know you're in there." I said as I waited for an answer.
No answer. I looked for her spare key, hoping Harry didn't grab it.
"Bingo." I whispered as I grabbed the cool piece of metal hidden in the door frame.
