Whack!

"Again!" Kenny ordered his daughter.

Kendra tried to lift her leg higher than last time, but her muscles strained and burned. She had been training well over an hour a day for several days now.

She collapsed against the punching bag, gasping for breath, sweat running down her face.

"C'mon, Kendra! As my second in command you ought to be better than that! Again! Your mother would be ashamed to see you like this!"

'Shut up, old man,' she thought bitterly.

"Just think, Kendra. Think of that bag as the man who killed your mom. What would you have done if you were there to defend her?"

Kendra narrowed her eyes.

"How would you have saved her? You are powerless. Weak. You don't have the strength."

Shut up, old man.

"You're too soft. You can't defend yourself, much less her."

Kenny kept egging her on until her control snapped. She landed a roundhouse kick to the bag that sent it snapping off the chain. The bag flew, narrowly missing Kenny as it sailed. She attacked the practice dummies, and destroyed the targets Kenny used for practice.

"I think I just found your trigger," Kenny said with a smirk.

Kendra said nothing as Kenny placed his hands on her shoulders.

"You have been holding out on me," he accused.

"I want to see your full potential. You are an Ackerman. So act like one."

"Yeah?" Kendra spat. "When are you gonna act like my father instead of acting like my drill sergeant?"

Kenny clenched his fists and gritted his teeth.

" I didn't have to take you in. I could kick you out at any time; you're of age. I don't have to care for you. But as long as you're under my roof, you will abide by my rules and do as I say."

"Maybe I don't want to live by your rules. Quit trying to control my life. I want to see my friends, get a college education, get a LIFE, and you throw a fit. All we ever do is train, and what for? Because of some grudge you're holding against the cousin I never met? Let it go, Kenny. He's obviously moved on. Have you?"

"I'm not even sure you're my kid," Kenny retorted icily, turning for his apartment door.

"Don't you DARE back out on me because you know I'm right! Ackermans never back out, right? So why aren't you acting like an Ackerman instead of a coward!?"

The streets were then completely silent save the sound of a slamming door.
