"What happened?" Emma asked. Sarah was feeling better, but Tex hadn't put her down yet. KT had put Lei down at his insistence. She had then left with Janet, bound for storage.
"We found the droid, but Lei and Sarah got a taste of the lightning." Tex replied, his accent becoming strangely strong for a moment. "Figure you should give 'em a once over."
"Right. Place them on the tables," Tex laid Sarah on one table, Lei helped himself to another.
"Also," Tex whispered something to Doc. Sarah could feel the surprise resonating from her.
"You messed up girl." "Thank you for bringing this to my attention Tex, but I am well aware of Sarah's condition. You do not need to be worried though, it is transmitted by blood, so you'll be fine."
"Y-you know?" Belle exclaimed.
"I have numerous degrees in medicine. Once I figured out what to look for it was child's play to identify Sarah's blood as infected." She pressed a few buttons, and the doors sealed. She approached Sarah and pulled the curtain across. "Now let me see."
"So, that's how it is?" Tex asked. "You're going to infect us too?"
"Of course not, I'm going to offer you an inoculation." Emma said, speaking while checking over Sara. "I think you'll be alright. There isn't even a burn mark, though that's not surprising." She stepped through the curtain, allowing Sarah to get dressed. "It's your choice to take it or not."
"Lucky you." Lei mumbled.
"I don't see you complaining about that broken arm." Emma retorted. Lei didn't respond. "And that was Eve's doing, she's sneaky like that. I let my mind wander for one second and there are Genesis cells in the IV."
"So I guess a cure is out of the question."
"I'm still working on one, just in case Carlos is infected, but there's not a lot that can be done. The organism moves fast, and it replaces the mitochondria with something similar. I could target that, but any cell that was already infected would be left on anaerobic power. Your brain, heart, liver, all gone." She shrugged. "I'm still trying, but it looks bleak. The best option is to just go with it."
"Do the heads know this is infectious?"
"James does." Sarah said, stepping out from behind the curtain. "So does Toby. Carlos probably suspects it, but if he knew for sure, well," She made a gesture across her neck. "So, what now?"
Tex paused, thinking. "I don't know. A meeting between the heads would be standard procedure, but with Carlos so terrified of the organism, and Doc infected,"
"Inoculated," Emma corrected
"Inoculated, I don't see that ending well." He paused. "I wonder how the head of navigations will take this."
"Toby's inoculated." Sarah replied.
Tex shook his head. "Guess that settles it, but Carlos isn't going to let this slide." Just then the doors slid open. "Speak of the devil."
Carlos was lifting a stretcher 'jury rigged from a coat and a pair of pipes. Three men were piled on it. Another man was helping him lift it.
"Doc! We've had a," He paused when he saw Sarah, but quickly regained his composure. "There's been an accident."
"Right. Sarah, Tex, Belle, give me a hand."
"No, SHE stays back." Carlos glared at Sarah. "Little girls can't be trusted, especially now."
"Is now the time? Of course... move them here." Carlos and the other man positioned the stretcher and Emma and Belle moved off the first man. Soon the other two were on beds, and Emma was examining them. "These look like shrapnel. Were you setting claymores for the chimera?"
