Miranda
I woke with a scare, as I heard birds flew into my tent. I rolled my eyes and reached for my phone to check the time, and my screen was scattered with messages from my mom.
"Where are you?"
"Miranda honey?"
" I am starting to worry,"
My eyes filled with tears.
"Please answer,"
"we are calling the police soon honey," At that statement my eyes widened. I checked the time 3:35
I, crawled out of my tent holding my back, rubbing the soarness from sleeping on the ground. I stretched and walked over to Jacobs tent. I needed to wake him up. We were both such idiots!!
I shook his tent a little.
"Jacob," I waited for a response but didnt get one. Irritated, I shook it a little harder.
"Jacob, get up this is urgent," I again sat back and waited to hear the zip of the tent, but the night and, campsite was silent.
"JACOB," I whispered harshly, unzipping the tent, and going inside. After a few seconds of my eyes adjusting, I almost screamed.
Jacob was gone!
Shock settled, and it slowly turned to anger.
"I can not believe Jacob chickened out and left us to fend for ourselves!" I thought. I walked out of the his tent and decided not to worry about anything. but after a few seconds of "relaxing" I decided that it was time for a phone call.
I looked through my contacts and found Jacobs name and number, and I called it.
The other side answered.
"Hello?" he said confused and, a little worried.
"WHERE ARE YOU!" I replied, as I walked away from the tents so I didn't wake up Kalyn or Kyler.
"What are you doing up,"
"Trying to tell you something, where are you,"
"it's none of your bussniess,"
"it's all my bussniess! We are the eldest of the camp!" We argued for a second but finally Jacob spit up the information I was searching for.
"I went to go find Caitlyn, she said she needed me,"
anger swelled inside me, I hung up the phone and grabbed my bow. but before I made any rash decisions, I sat down and counted to ten. after doing that I got up and shot at trees.
"I can not believe he did that," I said aloud.
"In all of the things in the world, he decides to leave the camp and to find some chick."
I released an arrow and it struck the tree with a loud thunk.
"I probably should go find him, but he will be back soon but what if he ge-" I was interrupted by someone walking up behind me, I turned to see that it was Kalyn.
"What, are you doing up," she said rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.
"Nothing, just, getting some air," I replied. We stood in silence for a while, then I loaded and arrow, and shot at the tree once again.
"What's wrong," Kalyn asked, walking closer to me. I thought in my head about all of the situations I could come up with, and the lies I could pass off for the truth, but I decide I would just say what was going on.
"Jacobs gone, he left to go find some Caitlyn girl," I propped my bow against a nearby tree and sat in the soft grass, moving my hands through it, trying to find peace about this whole situation.
when me and Jacob thought it up, I never really thought that we would actually run away from our homes. I took it as some fantasy to escape the reality of what we call our lives. but Jacob kept making plans about what we would bring, and who we would bring, and the more we thought about it, the more exciting the idea became. with each moment contemplating the devious task, the fantasy kept getting closer to reality, when finally they crashed into where we are now.
"He, he did?" Kalyn said finally shocked to a lesser extent then I was.
"Yeah, go check his tent if you want proof, I just want to decide if I want to go back to sleep or not," I laid on the grass and closed my eyes, if running away couldn't stop the pressures of life, sleep sure could. darkness soon took over and I was soundly asleep.
I woke up with Jacob staring down at me.
"Good morning sunshine," he said as he smiled and helped me off the ground.
"So where's the chick you dropped everything to go get," I snapped turning to look at him. I was angry and I wanted him to know how angry. he opened his mouth to talk but I Interrupted.
"You know I wouldn't have been able to do this myself, why would you even think about leaving! What if you got hurt, none of us would have none where you are!" I waited for his reply, but he stood there and just looked at me. He closed his eyes took a deep breath and replied:
"I am here aren't I," I looked at him astounded, but it was true nothing did happens to him and I decided to let thing go, until I remembered what I had to talk to him about.
"Wait!" I stopped him before he made it back to the camp.
"We need to take the batteries out of our phones, the police can track us that way,"
a look of realization came across his face as he pulled out his phone and took the batteries out. I pulled my own out, and the screen flashed with "7 missed calls," and "12 new messages"
Tears stung at my eyes, and I turned away to look at the messages.
"Come home right now!"
"This better not be a joke!"
"We're calling the police," I closed my eyes as tears streamed down my cheeks. I took out the back and thought the battery at the tree. it made contact with the tree and burst into a bunch of pieces and fell to the grass. I licked the saltiness of my lips and wiped my face with my shirt and turned around to head back toward the camp. I got back to see no one was up. Kalyn and Kyler were both in their tents and Jacob was no where to be seen.
"Probably fetching some firewood," I said aloud. I the. Decided it was time for everyone to wake up. I took a deep breath and screamed.
kyler's tent collapsed at the sudden movement inside, and Kalyn jumped out with bead head and a terrified look on her face.
"What's going on!" I heard from behind me. Turned around laughing to see Jacob with a handful of logs and a worried look in his eyes.
"You guys are so easy to scare," I continued to crack up as Kalyn threw her pillow at me and Jacob threatened to cook me In the fire. Kyler was still struggling to get out of her tent, which made me laugh even more.
at that moment I decided it was all going to be fine
