As we lay there after he had finished; his face nuzzled into my neck, I made a vow to never let anyone in like I let Luke in. My God, I trusted the kid, and look what he did to me!

Tears streamed slowly down my face as Luke’s snores penetrated the darkness. I’ve heard stories of men being raped by other inmates, but those were always stories that took place in jail, not juvie.

Trying to sleep right now, was like trying to sleep with a monster floating right above your face, barring it’s teeth while it’s hot breath fanned against your face. I just couldn’t. I couldn’t sleep knowing that Luke was lying right on top of me; our naked bodies pressed against each other.

I closed my eyes as I let the last few tears escape from my eyelids, from now on, I will not trust a single person, even if my life depended on it.

“Mr. Stark, why are you late?”

I sighed and glanced at Mrs. Glendale sadly, “I’m so sorry, but Mr. Holloway wanted to speak to me. I told him how important this class was to me, but he just continued on like I hadn’t even spoken!” my voice was probably the fakest I could make it, but Mrs. Glendale couldn’t even see two feet in front of her, much less understand what sarcasm is.

“Aw sweetie, that’s okay; why don’t you go sit down in the back then?”

I nodded enthusiastically and made my way over to the back corner, where the only seat available was located. Sighing, I leaned back until my head rested against the back of the chair and took out my iPod.

“Hey, you’re not supposed to listen to your iPod during school hours,” a familiar voice squeaked.

“I’m not one to follow the rules,” I said dismissively as the kid from earlier leaned toward me.

I was jamming along to my music, when suddenly my headphones were snatched out of my ears. “Hey, what the hell,” I growled and glared at the kid.

“I told you not to listen to it, but did you listen to me? No,” he smiled smugly and I gritted my teeth as the onslaught of anger washed through me.

“Listen here, Pipsqueak, I don’t care about the rules. Now give me my iPod back before I get really angry,” I said lowly. This brat was really testing my nerves.

“Oh shut up, you’re all talk. Anyways, I’m too cute for you to punch,” he batted his eyelashes at me and I bit my tongue to keep back the agreement.

“Whatever, it’s not like I need it anyways,” I said stubbornly as I looked back at the ceiling again.

“You are so full of it. You just don’t want to admit that you can’t punch me because of my good looks. Look I understand, but there’s no need to deny it,” I turned to look at him and shook my head as an amused smile made its way onto my face.

               “What’s your name anyways?”

“Me? You want to know what my name is. The notorious gay guy, Ryder Stark, otherwise known as Stark, is asking me what my name is. Man, I must be dreaming,” he fanned himself.

               “Didn’t I ask you that,” I growled.

“Oh sorry man, my name is Lucas, but you can just call me Luke,” he grinned cheekily at me as I tried to hold back the gasp that wanted out. Was he… no he looks nothing like him… but… stop thinking irrationally, Stark. He’s too innocent looking to be him.

“Stay away from me,” I snarled and grabbed my back pack, putting it on before storming out of the classroom. A few seconds after I left, the bell rung, signaling the end of class.

Shaking my head to rid the thoughts of my past, I walked off of school grounds, pulling a cigarette from my pocket and lighting it up.

I lifted a hand up to block the sunlight that shined in front of the building. Glaring at everyone that passed by, I spotted my mom standing stoically beside her car.

               “Great,” I mumbled.

Taking a deep breath, I left the building that had locked me up for two years, and had been the source of all my troubles. “Mom,” I nodded at her and my mom’s hazel eyes filled with tears, before she lunged forward and smacked my cheek.

“What the hell!” I yelled as the sting of her slap rang through my ears.

“Don’t you what the hell me!” she bit out before wrapping her arms around me. My throat closed off and I pushed her off of me as thoughts of Luke entered my mind.

“Don’t touch me,” I sneered at her. Her eyes widened and tears spilled out of her eyes. “Can we go home, I want to catch up with the guys,” I slammed the car door shut and watched as she stood there for a few minutes.

I leaned over and honked the horn impatiently.

               “Ryder-.”

               “It’s Stark,” I growled.

She took a strangled breath, “Stark, I have something to tell you and you won’t like it.”

               “What?”

“I moved while you were gone. I just thought a new beginning would be better for you since you are 15 now. I think it’s best that you get a whole new group of friends,” she stuttered nervously as she watched my hands ball into fists.

               “You did what?”

___

My first day at the new school was uneventful, until I got to fifth period when I met Mr. Jacobs.

“Oh my gawd! Look at that kid’s pants! Oh gross and he’s staring at Mr. Jacobs!”
