“Ryder,” my mom stated as I walked into the front door. Rolling my eyes, I trudged my way upstairs, “I’m going to work,” she yelled to me as I reached the top of the stairs.

“Whatever,” I whispered under my breath. Not hearing my words, my mom sighed loudly and slammed the front door on her way out. “Love you too!” I called out sarcastically to the empty house.

All my mom does is work, she even sleeps at work most days. I swear, she is a secret ninja that has to give up everything, including hormonal teenagers, to work there. I mean, I’m more important than a job, right?

But it’s not like I actually care, she gave up on me the day I returned from juvie, and if I don’t get a second chance, why should I give her a first one? Well, that’s my philosophy anyway.

The shrill sound of my phone ringing pulled me out of my stupor, “Hello?”

“What’s up my home dog? My Philly to the cheese steak!” I sighed and put a hand against my forehead.

               “What do you want, Richard?”

“Aw man, how did you know it was me?”

I scowled at the wall, but a small smile was forming it’s way onto my mouth, “I’m not an idiot,” I stated matter-of-factly.

“Really? And what are your grades, may I ask?”

The small smile dropped from my face, and instead of scowling it turned into a glare, “What the hell is it, Richard?”

“Is that anyway to talk to your very best friend that has someone here that has been dying to talk to you?”

My ear perked at the sound of someone wanting my attention, “Who?” my voice coming out a little too eagerly.

“Just some lad by the name of…” he took a slow deep breath, making me growl into the phone, “Okay, sheesh calm your horses, his name is Lucas, but he said that you would probably hang up the phone when I mentioned his name. He said to call him Jones, but I couldn’t resist telling you,” he giggled.

I shook my head, “Are you high?”

“What? Me? No!” the exclaimed part was a little higher pitch than the rest, and I knew immediately that he was lying.

“Really? So if I come over there, right now, and take a long whiff of you, I won’t smell weed?”

“Uh…” he trailed off, “Here’s Lucas, he’s anxious to talk to you!” the sound of the phone being passed frantically, echoed through the cell phone.

               “H-Hello?”

“What do you want, Lucas?” I sneered at the large poster that was hanging above my bed.

“Well I know for sure that it’s Stark, because only he would speak to me this way,” I rolled my eyes and walked to sit on my bed.
