Sacrifice and Friendship

Ch. 3

I walked through the sewers the snow coming down through the grates. I stopped for a moment. "he was protecting his family.. I have no family to protect. not anymore anyway." I continued walking down the tunnels and found a manhole. I climbed up and closed the lid behind me. I looked around and found a way to climb up on the rooftops. after pulling myself up I sat down wincing at the pain in my side. I had completely forgotten about my wound. it wasnt bleeding anymore, but it stung badly as I stretched the bandages. I looked up and noticed this roof had a somewhat covered balcony area, then as soon as there wasnt coverage snow inched its way upward. I got up and walked to the freshly fallen snow. I picked up a small amount in my hand. "Kaylynn.." a tear fell down my cheek at the mention of her name. I quickly dropped the snow and wiped my face. my nose was cold and my cheeks rosy. I shook my head and ignored the cold, taking off into a run through the cold dark air.

leo's pov.

she just left, then afterward Raph went out to 'clear his head'. more likely his ego. "I'm pretty sure raph went out to get her to come back.." I looked at Mikey who had become really quiet. his eyes werent their usual bright excited blue, they looked almost faded, concerned. he pulled his legs up on the couch and wrapped his arms around them turning to Donny. "She'll be alright.. right?" Donny and I exchanged a look. "of course Mikey." "don't lie just to make me feel better Donny." he put his head down on his knees. "Desire is a strong girl. and I bet you Raph will probably have her thrown over his shoulder walking through that door at any time."

raphs pov.

I followed her for a good ten miles. this girl can run, really fast. like mikey on sugar fast. Even with her injuries shes crazy good. She flips over buildings and jumps high. I look back up, and she just disappeared. "why are you following me Raphael?" I spun around to see Desire sitting on the edge of the building legs dangling over the edge. "I came after you.. it was just because.." I sounded like an idiot. I rubbed the back of my neck. "you don't have to apologize Raphael." she jumped off and walked over to the edge of the roof. "I never really got to explore New York with my sister. we were held up inside most of the time. we were homeschooled, and none of our family lives in the US." she turned around to look at me. "I didnt mean to just walk out like that.. I mean, Donny helped me and I just gave him a cold shoulder." I didnt really say anything at first. "so you wanted to stay? even after I shook your brains out?" "I may have wanted to but I couldnt endanger you or your family." She turned away from me and started walking away. "we can protect ourselves. you can still stay. up here youre in constant danger. we have extra rooms. and besides youre gonna catch a cold up here if you keep running around in the snow." she looked back at me and smirked. "trust me I'll be just fine." she then let out an involuntary sneeze. "too late.." I looked at her laughing lightly. "told ya. now let's get back home." "Raph.." "I don't wanna hear it. come on." "I'm not going back there." "don't make me tie you up Desire." "I'm not going and that is that." she sneezed again. I huffed out a breath and grabbed her arm throwing her over my shoulder. "hey! easy on the side Raph!" She hit my shell lightly before sneezing again. "fine I'll go with you. just put me down." I put her down and we walked across the roof above the alleyway. "Sister! Stop where you are!"

Desire's pov.

"Sister! Stop where you are!" Raph spun around and grabbed his sai spinning them angrily. I turned to see Karai with many of her ninjas and fa- the shredder. " I grabbed a broken pipe off of the ground and spun it. Raph pushed me behind him. "you run. go get the others." I shook my head and turned back to the group of ninjas that had us surrounded. "we stay together." I told him putting my back against his shell. Karai and the shredder stayed above watching the battle commence. every angle we looked a ninja was there ready to fight. we need backup. a few ninjas rushed at me on my side and I kicked them back turning and grabbing Raphs shell cell out of his belt. I turned back and kicked another few ninjas back while dialing for Leo. I lifted the phone to my ear and listened to it ring. "Raph where are you? is Desire with you?" "its Dez. we need a hand here." "where are you?" I kicked back amother ninja and punched one on my left. "raph where are we?" "uh.. east and fifth." "East and-" I was cut off with a hand clamping over my mouth. the shell cell was knocked out of my hand and I was pulled to the right. I stuggled away from Dog-pound and searched for Raph. He was across the way from me tied up and restrained.

leos pov.

she was cut off. "we gotta get to them. Don fire up the shellraiser, and hurry." we loaded up. "where are they Leo?" "All I got was East and. then she was cut off. "mikey start scanning the rooftops for them." "rodger that Donny.. whoa! right up there!" "let's get up there!" we climbed up and perched above.

Desires pov.

I was being restrained by dogpound and he was tightening his grip on my shoulders more and more. "leave her alone Shredder!" I looked up at Raph who was still trying to escape from the five ninjas holding him down. "So what have you freaks been up to? Obviously youve taken a liking to my little brat, or you would have left long ago. that mistake will cost you your life." the shredder raised his bladed fist above Raphs head. I slammed my head back and kicked back into dogpounds stomach then rammed into his side with my elbow. I sprinted at full speed at the shredder and slid under his arm slamming my foot into his chest. "stay away from my friends!" I turned on my heel and snapped my leg back into his stomach, sending him flying. I then gave one of the ninjas an uppercut to the jaw and flipped over Raph to get the others away from him. I reached back and cut the rope and again we were back to back surrounded. "i told you you should have ran!" "were in this together. I only hope the others will come to the rescue. were definitely out-manned." "who said we would let you have all the fun?" Mikey landed on my right Donny on my left and Leo next to Donny. "guess its our lucky day Raph." "guess so." we looked back at one another. "foot ninja! fall back. they have one this battle. the next will not have the same outcome!" Karai motioned for them to retreat and they did, the shredder looming over the area on the roof. "we will cross paths again child." and with that he jumped away. "glad we found you when we did." "I am too Mikey." Mikey wrapped his arms around me in a hug then let go. He slung his arm over my shoulder. "Mikey sure did miss you. we all did." I laughed lightly and ended up sneezing. "we need to get miss sneezy back home. told you you'd catch a cold." Mikey let go of my shoulders and Raph wrapped his arm around them. "your shivering like crazy.." "we'll get her to the shellraiser, I started it up so the heater is already running." Donny came over and felt my forehead. "dang. shes got a fever." I walked ahead of the others. "eh, I'm fine. its just a cold." I jumped over the edge and landed in a crouch. "are you boys comin or not?" out of nowhere i heard a huge crash, and I fell to the ground. "Dez?" the others came down in front of me and I picked myself up. Raph was spinning his sai and I grabbed the left one. "hey!" I spun it a few times crouching down to find what had made that noise. I turned to look behind a dumpster and saw a glowing container. I stood back up and threw Raph his sai back, and grabbed the container. "what is this stuff?" I held the container out to them. "desire! put that down!" I dropped the canister to the ground blinking at Donny for yelling. He rushed forward and checked me over. "Are you alright? nausea? paranoia? dizzyness? pain? anything?!" he was two inches from my face. "no." "that was mutagen. its what mutated us.." I looked myself over. "well I'm perfectly fine." I sneezed again. "okay we need to get her home." Raph grabbed my arm and pulled me to the shellraiser. I was sat down on a bench with seatbelts and Mikey sat with me. the others were sitting in their positions. "are you feeling any better Dez?" "I'm fine. ive had a lot worse than a cold." he reached up and felt my head. "holy mother of Raphaels Sai! your head is like hot lava!" "easy mikey. she'll be fine. we'll get her home and master splinter will take care of her just like he does us when we get sick." we drove home in silence, eventually I fell asleep on Mikeys shoulder.
