Chapter 8

Joey's pov

It had been about three months and shane and i don't talk that much. We finished our project and since then it's as if he's been avoiding me. I don't know if it was something i did but he won't give me the time of day anymore. I've tried to talk to him but whatever i guess.

I was with sawyer and it was a weekend, we were out for a hike and we took a quick water break. We were on a rather desolate trail, but it was broad day so i don't think anything bad could happen to us.

Sawyer: I'm out of water.

Joey: Have mine, i packed another like i told you to.

Sawyer: Hey, shut up, i meant to....i just forgot.

Joey: Like you always do.

I laughed and took a few big gulps of water before we continued our hike up the steep hill. We made it to a cliff after half an hour and we took a break sitting down to catch our breath. I sat on the edge just looking at the beautiful view that made me smile.

Sawyer: Ugh i forgot my phone.

Joey: Wow, you are very forgetful today. And literally everyday.

Sawyer: Welp, there's nothing i can do for my forgetfulness.

Joey: There is but i'm not gonna tell you.

He smiled and nudged me as he sat down next to me. He wrapped an arm around my shoulder and gave me a little squeeze as he smiled.

Sawyer: What's up joey? You seem distant.

Joey: I'm just thinking about shane. It seems like he's avoiding me.

Sawyer: He's probably just shy. That or he's a douchebag in disguise.

I smiled and he chuckled as he took a sip of water. For about two hours we talked and everything seemed calm. Well, besides the fact that i'm gonna have the worst sunburn when we get back.

I then heard fast foot steps and sawyer was shoved over the edge. I screamed and tried to jump after him but something caught my waist.

Sawyer: Joey I'm ok I caught something.

Joey: SAWYER

The man covers my mouth and I feel his rough tongue drag over my neck as I whimpered. His fingers were caked in dirt and they were very bony. I screamed and he bit my ear lightly.

Man: I can just imagine how you taste.

I felt a slight prick in my neck and my body started going limp. My life was slowly slipping from me and I felt dead.

Shane's pov

I was out hunting when I heard a scream.

???: SAWYER

Oh my god, joey. I quickly dashed through the woods to a cliff side. A man cloaked in black had joey tightly in his grip as he was sucking every last drop he could.

My fangs poked out and I growled dashing towards him and tackling him to the ground. His mouth was dripping with blood and his face was pale and sunken in. This is no regular vampire.

Shane: Who the fuck are you?

Man: I'm what nightmares are made of.

He shoved me off of him into a tree and I felt a bone break and mend. His sharp nails dug into my skin as he knocked me to the ground. A mist of black smoke surrounded me and I coughed harshly as I felt myself lift off the ground.

Man: My name is Selius if you wanted to know young vampire.

Shane: L-Leave those two alone.

Selius: Where's the fun in that?

The smoke got thicker and my consciousness was fading. Suddenly the smoke went away and I fell to the ground coughing and heaving as I took in deep breaths. My vision was blurry but I saw joey standing over selius who was unconscious. His entire body was shaking and he was breathing heavy.

Blood ran down his neck and I could feel his heart beat and just how fast it was. His entire body was shaking but he didn't let it effect him too much.

Joeys POV

My heart was racing and my world felt like it was spinning. I ran to Sawyer and caught him right before he fell. I pulled him up and groaned as we fell backwards.

Joey: Are you ok?

Sawyer: I could ask you the same thing. Yea I'm fine.

Joey: My neck is killing me.

I walked over to Shane being unbelievably confused. I have no idea what just happened.

Joey: You ok?

Shane: Um yea. You're bleeding

Joey: Yea no shit. What are you doing here?

Shane: Um..I was out for a walk and I heard you scream.

Joey: Oh...ok.

He stood up and walked towards me. I could see burn marks on his skin but they disappeared. He had dirt on his face and he was a mess but to me he still looked beautiful.

Shane: You and sawyer need to come back to my house and I'll explain everything.

I nodded and we all silently hiked back to my car. No one dared to break the overwhelming silence. I was incredibly lost in thought so I really didn't want to say anything

Sawyer drove us to his house and I was still shaking as we walked inside.

Shane's POV

I massaged sawyers strained arms and I calmed joey down.

Joey: What are you?

Shane: Right now I can't answer that. You just have to trust me.

Joey: O-ok.

Isaac walked in the room and his eyes went wide when he saw the marks

Isaac: D-did you...

Shane: No, he got attacked by a vampire named selius

Isaac: Shit

He ran to his room and came back with a bottle filled with black liquid.

Isaac: Here drink this.

Joey: Hell no.

Isaac: Do you want to die you stubborn bitch?

Joey groaned and downed it grimacing at the taste. He gave the bottle back and joey shrugged.

Isaac: Now this might hurt.

He growled and sunk his teeth into Joey's neck as my eyes went wide.

Sawyer: WHAT THE FUCK. GET OFF HIM!!!

Sawyer lunged towards him and I held him back.

Shane: Calm down it's OK.

Sawyer: He's getting hurt.

He started to cry and turned away as I watched joey scream in pain. His shrieks were making my heart hurt.

Shane: Please....stop.

Isaac: Almost done.

He tore Joey's skin and I heard Joey scream like he was being murdered. I clenched my eyes shut and listened to the horrifying cries.

Shane: Dear God why?
