Chapter 4
For the past few weeks, rumors were spreading about the opera house that there was going to be a couple of new managers. Erik told you that the rumors were true, but you kept the knowledge you learned to yourself. The morning the new managers arrived, you gave Madame Giry a letter that Erik entrusted you with. It became your job to deliver the messages to and from Erik.
You were in the middle of a ballet session from the new production of Hannabal when the new managers arrived. They watched you and the other girls practice, and seemed very impressed. After you and the others finished the act, everybody was introduced to the new managers, Mr. Andre and Mr. Firman. You paid little attention to the formal introductions; they weren't that important to you anyways. It was only when everyone was being hushed for Carlotta's singing did you finally start to pay attention a little bit. (Mostly because you had to stop talking)
"Think of me... Think of me fondly..." Carlotta sang. The diva wasn't a terrible singer. Of course, she wasn't that wonderful either. You started to tune her out, when suddenly; a scene background fell from the ceiling where it was stored. People screamed and ran for cover. A ballerina screamed,
"It's the Phantom! The Phantom of the Opera!" Everyone started to murmur once the young girl said that it was the Phantom.
"Everyone, please!" The old manager shouted. "Where's Buquet!" He shouted. "Get him down here." Buquet, came down from the rafters. "What's going on?!"
"Please, Monsieur, don't look at me." Buquet stated, "With God as my witness, I was not at my post. Please Monsieur, there's no one's there, and if there is then it must be a GHOST!" He turned towards you and the other ballerina girls as he shouted, causing some girls to scream.
"Senora," One of the new managers calmly said to the diva when the girls were calmed down, "These things do happen."
"These things do 'appen?" Carlotta stuttered, tears welling up in her eyes. "You have been here five minutes, and what do you know?! These things have been 'appening for years! And did anyone stop these things from 'appening?! No! Either you stop these things from 'appining, or THIS THING DOES NOT 'APPEN!!!" And with that, she stormed off of the stage.
People murmured to each other. What now? She was needed for the Gala tonight, and she was not coming back. The old manager took his leave and the new managers worried. Madame Giry pulled out the note from the Erik and read it out loud to the new managers.
"This message is from the Opera Ghost. He welcomes you to his Opera house, and asks you to leave box 5 empty for his use. Also, his salary is due."
"HIS SALARY!"
"He was always paid 20,000 Franks a month. I suppose you could pay more with the Viscount De' Chaney as your patron."
You once again tuned out the conversations until Meg burst out of the group with Christine. "Christine Daae could sing the part tonight." She piped up.
"A chorus girl?" they questioned.
"She has been well taught." Madame Giry assured them. "Listen to her sing."
"Very well." One of the managers stated. "From the beginning of the aria, then."
The pianist started the aria, and Christine started to sing. At first she was quiet, and her voice quavered. She quickly built up confidence though, and everyone knew that they found Carlotta's replacement.

The Gala went beautifully. Christine was a huge success and everyone was very proud of her. After the gala, Madame Giry came up to you.
"You did very well with your dancing." She complimented you. "You have certainly proved to me that you can practice your singing and dancing."
"Thank you." You smile. Madame Giry rarely gave out such complements. She gestured for you to follow her.
"Yes, you did very well, unlike some of the other girls..." She opened the door to the leading lead soprano's dressing room. In there was Christine and the girls Madame Giry was talking about. "You girls you girls did not do nearly as well as you could of." She scolded them. "Come now, you girls will need to practice." The girls followed Madame Giry out of the room, and you quickly entered.
"You sang wonderfully!" You exclaimed to Christine, giving her a hug.
"Thank you." She smiled. You waved goodbye to her, promising to talk more later, and left to go practice with the other girls.
When you were allowed to leave practice, you left for Erik's chamber. With a skip in your step, you hummed the song 'think of me' to yourself. You were all ready to tell Erik about the Gala. However, something stopped you in your footsteps. Faintly, you heard Erik singing a song you did not know. You never really heard Erik singing a more than a few measures of a song at a time. Oh well, that didn't really matter. You continued walking.
As you entered the room, you saw Erik walking away from his bed. Your eyes caught something in his bed through a small opening in the curtain. As Erik walked over to the organ, you wandered over to his bed. Before he could stop you, you pulled the curtain aside and gasped. It was Christine. Christine was asleep in the bed.
"What's she doing here? Is she okay?" You turned and asked Erik. He walked back over to you.
"She merely fainted." He replied in his deep, smooth voice.
"But how did she get down here?"
I brought her here. It was time she met her teacher," You put two and two together and realized something.
"Christine often speaks of an angel of music who teaches her music. Are you the one she speaks of?"
"I do fill the role of Christine's teacher and 'angel of music." Erik's gaze turned to the bed where Christine laid sleeping. You saw in his eyes longing and love. You sighed and smiled weakly.
"I suppose we won't have practice tonight, will we."
"No, we will not. Practice will be the evening after the next. Is that okay?"
"Yes, that will be fine."
"Very well. Now, before you go," Erik walked over to one of the tables and grabbed a few letters, "these are for our new managers, The Viscount De' Chaney, Carlotta, and Madame Giry. Make sure these get to them."
"Okay." You said, taking the letters from his hand. "Goodnight." You left Erik and walked back through the tunnels.
Something was bugging you deep in your heart. What was it? It felt almost like jealousy, but how would you feel jealous? What were you jealous of? You kept on remembering that loving look Erik gave Christine. No, you couldn't be jealous, could you?

Wow, I wrote that fast. Thank you all for the wonderful comments from the last two chapters. Every one means a lot to me! Now, as you may or may not have noticed, I am blending both the movie and the musical. Now my question to you is which one to should I lean more towards? The movie or the musical? As always, please tell me what you think, and love you all!
