Chapter 3
(I don't want this to be very confusing, but these are little snips of things that happen to you throughout a course of four months.)
You have been practicing with the Phantom of the Opera for about four months now. You usually had practice every other day and he was not joking when he told you he was a strict teacher. With him, everything had to be perfect. If a rhythm was off or if you sang a note badly, he'd make you practice until you had it right. But with this strict teaching, you saw improvement in your singing.
*****
One morning, you, Christine, and Meg were getting ready for ballet practice. While stretching, you hummed to yourself one of the songs you've been practicing.
"Someone seems to be in a good mood." Meg giggled as she listened to you hum. "Has anything happened recently? Did you meet someone new?"
"No." you answered, blushing.
"Then why have you been so happy lately? I've never heard you hum like that." Meg tilted her head and looked at you.
"I've just been practicing my singing. That's all." It wasn't a total lie. You were practicing you singing, just not alone.
"Oh, really..." Meg giggled again. You finished your stretches, trying your best to avoid Meg's questions.
*****
"Phantom, I'm confused with this part." You stated for the umpteenth time that night. It wasn't the same part every time, or even the same question, but you always started with 'Phantom.' He got up from the organ and looked at you.
"Erik." He stated. You tilted your head in confusion. Erik wasn't and answer to your problem. Noticing your confusion, he restated what he had said. "My name is Erik. You may use that now instead of calling me 'Phantom' all of the time."
Your repeated his name quietly. "Erik... I like it."
*****
One night, you walked into Erik's home for your practice to find him not at his organ. You looked down by the lake; he wasn't there either. Where was he? You walked back to the organ and sat down, wondering where Erik could be. Perhaps he was on the other side of the room; the area blocked by thick curtains. Erik had told you that the area blocked off by curtains were his sleeping quarters, and you had no reason to go back there. But you had to find Erik. Plus, you were very curious.
Slowly, you tiptoed over to the large curtain that blocked your view of the other side of the room. Pulling the curtain aside, you found the rest of the room looking much like the side you have come to know. Nothing seemed to catch your eye except for another large thick curtain and a small bedside table.
Walking up to the bedside table, you looked at the objects sitting on it: a candle, some sheet music, a black wig, and a mask; Erik's mask. You gingerly picked up the mask and studied it carefully. It was definitely the mask he always wore. You placed it gently back onto the table and your gaze turned to the curtain. Did you dare look behind that curtain? You weren't supposed to be back here, and you still didn't know where Erik was.
Gingerly, you grabbed the curtain and slowly pulled it aside. You put your hand over your mouth and quietly gasped at what you saw behind that curtain. Erik was asleep, and his deformed face was easily visible in the flickering candlelight. Several blond locks of hair were all that was upon his head. Thankfully he was asleep, and didn't wake up. You knew that you should have walked away from his bed, yet something kept your feet in their place. It wasn't fear; in fact, the longer you stood there, the less hideous his deformities were. He wasn't a monster like the stories said. His face didn't scare you at all.
You closed all the curtains you opened and walked back over to the organ. Picking up the stack of papers on the organ, you looked at the title, Don Juan Triumphant.
"I hope you weren't waiting long." A deep, smooth voice said behind you. You turned around to see Eric, Once again with his mask and black wig. He took the music from your hands and set it aside. "Forgive me for not being here when you arrived. I was working on that music all last day and night, and I accidentally slept longer then I intended to."
"It's okay," You politely smiled, hoping that he didn't realize that you saw him unmasked.
"Now then," Erik sat down next to you in front of the organ, "Let's get to work."
**********
I'm sorry this took so long, but I lost my Phantom inspiration for a little while. Anywhoo, I know this chapter (which was really more like a couple of mini stories) was kinda choppy, but I just really want to get to the good parts of the story. So, please tell me what you think, and I hope you enjoyed this!!!
