Angry, I held Harry’s hand and walked with him to the flying class. I was blind again. Someone took my potion. My best guess would be Peeves, but why is what I’d like to know.
“The Slytherins are there already,” Harry said, being my eyes. I imagined Pansy Parkinson (who I absolutely did NOT get along with), Malfoy, Crabbe, Goyle, and a bunch of other Slytherins at the field with a bunch of brooms lying in front of them.
Harry suddenly stopped and let go of my hand.
“I’ll be on your left,” he said, turning me around to face whichever direction I was supposed to.
“Well, what are you waiting for?” a woman - Madam Hooch, I’m guessing - suddenly asked. “Everyone stand by a broomstick. Come on, hurry up.”
I stood uncomfortably. Then I sensed someone in front of me.
“Amber Miller, is that correct?” Madam Hooch said.
“Yes,” I said.
“Can you see?” she asked.
“No,” I said.
“Oh, dear. You don’t have to take this class, you know,” Madame Hooch said worriedly.
“No, I want to,” I said. “I’ve rode a broom before when I was eight and I was blind then.”
“Are you sure?” I nodded. “Okay.” Then she left.
“Are you sure you want to take the class?” Harry asked.
“I’m sure,” I said firmly. This is for first years, anyway. I’m sure we won’t go that fast or that high.
“Stick your right hand over your broom,” Madam Hooch called. “and say ‘Up!’”
“UP!” everyone yelled.
My broom smacked my hand. I smiled and grabbed it.
Madam Hooch told and showed us how to mount our brooms so we didn’t slip off. I mounted my broom and kept a firm grip near the end of the stick.Madam Hooch adjusted my hands slightly higher.
“Good job,” she said before leaving. I lowered my head and smiled a bit. It grew bigger when I heard her tell Malfoy he had been mounting his broom all wrong the whole time.
“Now, when I blow my whistle, you kick off from the ground, hard,” Madam Hooch told us. “Keep your brooms steady, rise a few feet, and then come straight back down by leaning forward slightly. On my whistle - three - two -”
I heard a soft thump and a faint rustle.
“Come back, boy!”Madam Hooch yelled. I tilted my head towards Harry.
“Neville rose up already,” he said. “and he’s going up fast.”
WHAM! CRACK!
I turned towards the noise. It didn’t sound good.
“He fell,” Harry said.
“Oh no!” I gasped.
“Broken wrist,” Mamade Hooch murmured. I could barely hear her. “Come on, boy - it’s all right, up you get. None of you move while I take this boy to the hospital wing!” Madame Hooch barked at the rest of the class. “You leave those brooms where they are or you’ll be out of Hogwarts before you can say ‘Quidditch.’ Come on, dear.”
There was a silence. Then Malfoy started laughing.
“Did you see his face, the great lump?” he said.
