Dan's P.O.V.

There it is again, that familiar uncomfortable feeling of parties. The familiar practice of moving around sweaty and loud people, drunk or not. The familiar feeling or thought that something could go wrong.

Parties are never very good if you don't know anyone and aren't much of an extrovert. So I kind of leaned on the wall at the bottom of the stairs, hoping Chris would text me where he was or something. I decided I would just wait and started to stare at the floor.

"Hey, you need something?" I look up to see a guy about my height with bleach blonde looking at me with a confused expression.

"No, I'm just here for my friend." I say quietly.

"Is he coming anytime soon? You've been standing here for like five minutes now."

"He'll come in a second, I'll be fine."

"Have you been to many parties?" He asks and I shrug. I've been to quite a few, but I haven't enjoyed them all. "Well then does your friend really like parties?"

I nod and say, "Chris loves partying like Alaska from Looking From Alaska loves sex."

The blonde haired boy laughs and says, "Then I'm just going to say, he might not be here for a while. And honestly though, Alaska Young must have liked sex an awful lot if she made out with Pudge."

"You've read that?" I ask. Not many people I know have read it.

"Duh! John Green is the best! I love Looking For Alaska. It's one of my favorites by him, besides Paper Towns and An Abundance of Catherines."

"Same, most people only know The Fault in Our Stars which don't get me wrong, is an amazing book, but some people act like TFIOS is John's only good book."

"I totally agree! Not many people I know appreciate John's work like I do so its so cool to talk to someone that finally does. Especially a cute guy," he says with wink.

"Thanks and by the way, do you like any bands?"

The other boys eyes lit up, a wide smile growing onto his face.

"Do I? I love so many that there's too many to count." He laughed and sighed.
"But I've got to say, my favorites are the emo trinity with some Muse and Twenty One Pilots on the side."

"I feel the same way except basically just add every single other band in the universe because I most likely like them too."

"You're cute as hell. Hey, want to get a drink?" He asks.

"Uh well, I-" I'm cut off mid sentence by the yell of someone, which happens to be Chris. "Well my friend is back so I guess we'll go." I give the boy a soft smile.

"Wait, I never got your name. Mine is Thomas by the way."

"I'm Dan. It was a pleasure talking to you, Thomas." I go to shake his hand but instead he pulls me into a hug. He puts something into my back pocket and pulls away.

"I only put a paper in your pocket. I wasn't just touching your ass." Thomas winks again and waves before walking into the swarm of people. Chris walks over to me (to the best of his ability, which wasn't very well), leaning on my shoulder once he got to me.

"Hey, Dan, let's go. I think I'm drunk enough for me to wake up with a hangover tomorrow." Chris drunkenly weaves his way through people, with myself following him, and we get outside. I start walking left, back to campus, and it takes me about a minute do notice that Chris wasn't following me.

I run back to Chris and pull him back with me towards the right direction. He stumbles next to me, jumping over every crack, and laughing at random moments.

Walking to our room felt way longer than it usually does. Once we walked into he room, I collapsed onto my bed, hearing a thud beside me which must have been Chris falling onto his bed.

"Dan?"

I sigh. "Yeah?"

"Who was that guy you were with?"

"Just some guy I was talking to while I was waiting for you."

"Ok, I just hope you're not cheating on Phil." Chris yawns and turns his back to me.

"Phil and I aren't even dating anymore, we broke up after..." I stop talking once I hear Chris' snores and lie back on my bed, feeling myself get even more tired.

Phil and I did break up, so doesn't that mean that I can date other people? He's probably dating someone else, I mean who wouldn't want to date him? We can still be friends. The thought that me and Phil can stay friends while I date someone else doesn't seem so bad.

I pull out the paper, which I now saw was a phone number, from my back pocket and set it next to my phone on my bedside table. I think I'll text Thomas tomorrow after my classes.

So I close my eyes, content with the thought that maybe Phil and I shouldn't get back together.
