The slam of a door awakens me. It reeks of tranquilizer and blood. I go to move my arms, they're tied to a tall metal pipe behind me. I feel something drip from my forehead to my mouth, I lick my lips. Blood. My head's sore, my arms and feet are tied up, great. Just great.

I hear something being dragged, I open my eyes just enough to see it's a wolf, a big, brown, limp wolf. Knocked out with tranquilizer, I can still smell it. The wolf is bloody, poor thing probably fought until he couldn't anymore.

I snap my eyes shut again as I hear two men talking, "I need to be there when we kill the Olivia girl, I would love to see her eyes rolled to the whites." They both laugh their rough, raspy laughs.

I hear their footsteps and the volume decreasing with each step, then I hear a door opening and shutting. I open my eyes to see if the coast is clear, then look at the wolf next to me, his breathing is heavy and rough.

I'm still exhausted for some reason, so I just close my eyes and drift into sleep.

When I wake up, I go to look at the wolf and the wolf isn't there, in it's place is a young girl. Probably around my age, her hair is brown, but she has sky blue streaks in it. She looks familiar to me.

I try not to make a sound, but I hear something, a little voice, singing. It sounds like honey, I look at the girls face and her mouth is moving. As she sings, I sit and listen without making a sound or movement.

As her song ends, her eyes begin to open, the iris's are blood red. The girl sits up and looks at me, "What?" I hear her say, her voice sounds like a bell, but with a British accent.

"I liked your song, it was beautiful." I complimented her, my voice sounded almost exactly the same.

"Thank you, it's a lullaby my mother sang to me last time I saw her," She sighed, but looked at me odd, "What's your name?"

     "Umm..."

"It's okay if you don't tell me, I understand, I'm Blue Julianna Carls, by the way. I go by Blue." She smiled, but her smile faded as she puzzled over my face.

I look away, wondering why she would look at me in such a manner, then I look back at her, her face is all cut up, she has a scar running down the left side of her face, from just above her brow down to just below her eye.

"What happened to your face?" she asks.

"What? What do you mean? What's wrong with my face?" I go to touch my face, but I had forgotten that I was tied up, "Damn it." I struggle a bit then I give up.

"Why don't you just pulse or shift into something that can get you out?" She suggests.

"What? What do you mean 'shift into something' or 'pulse'?" I was completely confused now.

"You're a shifter, it's what you do." She mentions to the tattoo that I notice just then, crawling over my shoulders, clearly visible underneath my ripped, sleeveless shirt.

"Umm..." I'm still confused, "What do you mean? Isn't this just a regular tattoo?"

"No, it's the shifter's symbol. I have one too." She shifts into a snake then crawls through the neck-lock, then shifts back, "See? You can do that too, if you just put your mind to it."

Totally unsure of how to do this, I squeeze my eyes shut and vision a bear, but when I open my eyes, I feel exactly the same.

Blue looks at me, disappointed, "I'll get you out of this mess and take you to my house, since you obviously have no idea what you're doing or what you are." She turns into a bear and breaks my locks open easily. I stand and look at her, both grateful and questioning. She shifts back, looking at me, "Come on." She takes my arm and pulls me along with her into the darkness.

We follow the darkness, but I end up tripping and scraping my hands and knees open a bunch of times. The blood flow stops quickly and scabs up, in a few minutes, all that's left is a scar.

"Woah" I said, examining my knee.

"What? Are you just now realizing that you can heal supernaturally fast?" She laughs a bit. Still walking, but looking back at me every couple seconds to see if I'm still following.

"I had no idea that I could do that! That's so cool!" I stop examining my knee and keep walking, following her.

We keep walking for a bit until I see a speck of light, then we run.

"Come on! We're almost there!" Blue says, her pace quickening, our footsteps leaving an echo behind us.

We run faster and faster, but I stop. I wiggle my feet. Water, there's water in my shoes.

"Blue!" I say, beginning to run again, "Water!"

"What?" She stops and looks at me, I stomp my feet and water splashes everywhere, she looks down and so do I. We look back at each other when we see that the water level is rising.

"Run! And when you can't run, shift then swim!" She yells, then begins running as fast as she can. I follow, the water level is rising quickly, I run until I trip and fall into the water, I can't manage to stand back up so I try swimming.

"Shift!" She yells, then shifts into a sea turtle and swims as fast as she can under the water. I close my eyes and dive under, concentrating as much as I can, I try to shift into a salmon. My back burns, my tattoo glowing, the water around me is glowing. I open my eyes and move around, I did it.

I realize that I'm still in danger, so I swim as fast as I can, I'm catching up to Blue easily. I finally realize why everyone calls her blue, everything she shifts into, is blue.

I swim past her and she looks at me, her eyes full of glee. She does an backflip and we swim farther and farther. The light is becoming brighter and brighter and bigger and bigger.

Finally, I feel the warmth of the sun and I see that we swam in the direction of a waterfall, I shift into a duck and I swim to the edge and fly out of the water, shaking my black feathers dry. I turn around and see that Blue never made it out of the waterfall. I turned around, afraid that she might of hit a rock, maybe she drowned, maybe-

I feel a light tap on my left wing, I turn in that direction and see a blue duck hovering in front of me. I calm down, my wings are flapping more steadily.

We fly down to safe spot and land, shifting back.

"I thought you died." I said, looking at her.

     "Clearly, I didn't." She replied.

We laugh, then we begin walking. We follow the river to a pond and take a break, talking and climbing trees.

At dark, we climb a tree and roost in branches for the night.

     "Blue?" I ask.

     "Yea?"

     "Who am I?"

     "What do you mean?"

"Who am I? I don't know my name and I have no idea where I came from."

     "What? Really?"

     "Yes."

"Come on, we're gonna go see one of my friends." She grabs my hand and we're off.
