(5 years later)

AJ sat in her kitchen watching the kids play in the yard, while she talked to Jeff.  Her once long, wavy auburn hair was now cut to just above her shoulders with a little more intense wave.  Her emerald eyes trying to take in the kids and her guest

“So have you heard from Jason lately?” Jeff was saying as he took a sip from his coffee mug, watching AJ intently.

AJ looked at her cousin puzzled before saying “I haven’t heard from Jason sense he cut me out of his life” She got up to distract herself with making coffee so Jeff wouldn't see that it still hurt, just a little.

Concern clouded Jeff’s eyes for a brief minute before he looked down at his coffee. “I just heard he was back in the area, has been for a few months and thought that now that Amber is out of the picture and things have cooled down, maybe he might have got his head on straight and gave you a call.”

“From what you told me four or five years ago they got a divorce then. He could have contacted me then and didn’t it is obvious he still has no desire to talk to me.” She shrugged her shoulders giving off the pretense that it didn’t bother her even though it did.  “Nor has he tried to contact me during all this time either.  At least not to my knowledge he hasn’t”

At this point AJ was feeling a little uncomfortable with the conversation. She figured it would be best to change the subject instead of dwelling on the past that can’t be changed. Shifting the conversation to safer subjects of family and current friends and how everyone was doing, AJ settled her nerves and sat back to enjoy her company

Two weeks later AJ was sitting at her kitchen table with her neighbor, Sally Calling, watching the newest addition to the neighborhood move in.  The house next door had been empty for almost six months, till today.

“Good God, look at that ass. It’s like perfect.” Sally sighed.  She sat with her small squared chin in her hand propped on the table by her elbow.  “If the view is this good from the back I am not sure if I want to see the front”

He was standing in his driveway in clear view of side the kitchen window. AJ had to admit it was a nice view. Starting with, a head of extremely dark brown, almost black, hair cut short enough to barely brush the back of his neck. It was September, but it was still hot, so it was understandable why his was standing outside with his shirt off. The bare shoulders and back were tan and broad, just enough to fill, but not over power a doorway, tapering down to a trim waist.  He had long, strong legs braced apart encased in loose fitting blue jeans. His arms where crossed over his chest as he watched the movers unload his belongings, but what she could see they were well toned like the rest of him. All in all the view was spectacular.

As she watched a little girl carrying a doll dressed in a pink dress, around six or seven years old, came out of the house dressed in blue jeans and a pink t-shirt and long wavy hair as dark as the new neighbors, down to the middle of her back. Something about her was familiar but AJ couldn’t say what. The little girl ran around her father’s legs and then back into the house as a bed frame that was obviously hers was hauled into the house.

“Well dam Sally that cinched it, he’s married, with children.” She said and got up to get herself a fresh cup of coffee. “Such is the way of our single lives. They’re married, gay, or just plain jerks. Oh well at least we get a good view for a while.” She chuckled.

“What a pity” Sally replied still staring out the window wistfully. As AJ turned from the counter to head back to the table Sally was now slack jaw with eyes as wide as dinner plates. “I think I just died” she said in awe “His front is more magnificent then his back.” AJ rushed to the table to get a better view but as he came back into her site he turned back around and pointed at his house telling the mover where to put a large box.
