Chapter Five

Lacey walked into our shared bedroom and she raised an eyebrow when she saw every single piece of clothing that we had gotten sprawled across her bed.

“Thank god you’re here,” I said to her with a sigh of relief.

She crossed her arms and leaned against the doorframe. “By the looks of it, it looks like you can’t find anything to wear.”

I raised an eyebrow and took motioned towards a neatly folded pair of navy blue jeans and button up pink elbow length T-shirt. “I picked this out half an hour ago.” I ran my hand through my hair, a little nervous. “It’s just… do you think the kids at your school will like me?”

I could see her digging what looked like freshly painted nails into her skin. She was forcing a smile, it still looked great. “I’m sure that they’ll love you!”

I nodded my head and looked away from her; it was obvious she was lying. The kids at high school would hate my guts; they’d probably just think I was another mean blonde…

I took out my phone, which I had just gotten, from my pocket and I walked passed Lacey as I said, “I’ll be right back.”

I made my way into the hallway and I made sure no one was listening. I quickly dialed my best friends phone number and brought the phone to my ear.

“Hello?” I heard the familiar and soothing voice say.

“Blake!” I exclaimed, a smile already on my face. “It’s me, Evie!”

I could tell that he was grinning from ear to ear like he usually does, which would probably be revealing his gap-toothed smile. “What’s up?!” He asked me.

I sighed, my smile fading away but my eyes still bright from hearing the sound of my “brothers” voice. “My sister…” I bit my lip as I realized I was going to have to admit the truth. “She hates me Blake!”

“Don’t say that!” He responded. “I’m sure that it’s just sibling hate, all brothers and sisters have that.”

“But it’s true,” I insisted. “She can’t stand looking at me, I can just tell.”

I could hear him sighing on the other line. “I miss your constant complaining.”

I grinned, not able to help myself. “I miss you so much Blake.”

“Life isn’t the same without you hear anymore, everything is so quiet!” He told me.

I raised an eyebrow, even though he couldn’t see my face. “Are you saying I’m loud?” I asked him.

“Yes,” He responded, followed by a laugh.

I heard a door opening and footsteps coming my way, I quickly told Blake I had to go and I shoved my phone into my pocket. I leaned awkwardly on the wall with my arms crossed, trying to look “casual”.

Lacey appeared by me with her hands on her hips and a raised eyebrow. “Were you talking to yourself or something?” She asked me. “I could hear you laughing from my room.”

“Um…” I cleared my throat, stalling. “It must’ve been your imagination.”

She looked at me wide-eyed and then she turned around and made her way back to her room, before she left I could hear her mutter, “Freak.”

I quickly followed her into her room and I sat down in the chair by her desk as she sat down on her bed. She looked at me, waiting for me to start our upcoming conversation.

I took a deep breath. “Lacey, I’m guessing you’re all popular at your school,” I told her nervously.

She grinned a little bit. “Well, not to brag-”

“-So… I was just wondering if you could maybe…” I turned my hands into fists, urging myself to get what I wanted to say out. “I was wondering if you could help me make some friends.”

She crossed her arms and she leaned back. “Well, I’m sure you’ll be fine all by yourself.”

I couldn’t stop thinking about the bad things that could happen. “But what if you’re wrong? What if everyone just thinks of me as ‘Lacey’s weird sister’?”

“No one knows we’re sisters besides Cora,” She admitted.

I fingered a strand of hair that was resting on my shoulder. “Oh,” Was all I could say.

I looked at my sister’s face and realized that she probably didn’t want anyone to know that we were sisters. She looked like she had it good, she was gorgeous, seemed to have a pretty good relationship with Joe (who I knew right away was the cutest and most popular guy at school)  and I was guessing that Cora didn’t seem to be her only friend. I shouldn’t be messing all that up for her.

I folded my hands on my lap and I looked into her eyes. “I’m just jumping to conclusions,” I finally said.

She looked relieved. “Yeah,” She responded, resting the back of her head on the wall.

“I’ll be fine all by myself,” I said, crossing my toes just for a little bit more luck. I got up and gave her a smile, I put my left hand on Lacey’s shoulder and after a second of it staying there, I realized it was best to just keep my hands in my pockets. “Wish me luck at school.”

I made my way out of the bedroom, I could feel her eyes burning holes in my back. She was staring at me, probably curiously and confused. “Yeah…” I heard her murmur from behind me. “Good luck Evie…”

Cheyenne in the house!

I'll admit, this chapter was quite short and boring, and this is me writing it so I know what I'm talking about. Trust me though, once Lacey and Evie get to high school (I'm leaving that first chapter up to you Julia!) the rivalry will get even bigger... and better :)

Mouhahahahaha (Yes, that was needed)

Our account SushiAndRice doesn't have that much fans, so please fan, vote and comment!!!! It'll make Julia and I smile like total freaks!!! :D

Thanks for reading, you're awesome!
