It was early in the morning of the third day I was in Japan. The sun had barely risen, and all the other members of my host family were still sound asleep. I peeled back the covers of my bed and set my bare feet on the cold floor. This sending chills through my body.
I was still adjusting to the time zone change, so I've been having trouble sleeping. I got up slowly, careful not to wake my roommate, and I quickly threw on a hoodie and some jeans. Normally, I went and walked around for a while. It helped me get more of a feel of this foreign country, and it helped me relax as well.
I slid open the door of the small house, and I stepped outside, the cold morning air making me shiver when it came in contact with my exposed hands and face. I let a small sigh escape my lips, and I started down the sidewalk.
Once a week on my morning walks, I particularly enjoyed visiting a small café. The quiet atmosphere was nice, and the smell of coffee reminded me so much of home that it was calming. I approached the shop, giving my eyes a quick rub as I pushed through the door.
However, in rubbing my eyes, I was rendered sightless for a few moments, and I had run into someone. I stumbled backwards a bit, trying my best to stay on my feet. While I was able to retain my balance, the person I had run into had not been blessed with the same luck.
