Welcome to Seattle

As I sat beside my parents, the intercom kicked in. "Flight 34B has been delayed. Sorry for the inconvenience." I tilted my head down and looked down at my ticket. 34B. Of course. I wanted to swear but my parents were next to me. Being in this shit hole of a town for one minute was like a million years in hell.
"Mom, looks like we will be here a while." I spoke up.
"Yeah. You want something to eat?" She had asked as she handed me a ten and waved me off to the food court. The usual wave she gives when she wants to get rid of me. All too well known.
I took the bill and walked off to the food court. I never ate. I spent my hole life living off half a meal a day. It seemed almost impossible for me to wrap my head around the fact that I have lived 17 (almost 18) years on my life with only half a taco a day. Most of the time I was too busy getting high or drinking to care about food. I sat down at a table silently, and tried to recap how fast my life became nothing.
"Sir?" I heard a woman's voice from behind me, seeping into my thoughts slowly.
I tried to ignore it but it came again louder and angrier. "Huh?" I replied half groggy from my thought session.
"If you aren't going to order something to eat then you are not permitted to sit in here." She groaned.
"Fine." I grabbed my water that I bought from the vending machine earlier and walked for the exit. As I stepped back into the airport lobby my parents waved me over.
"Erikson!" My mom screamed to me.
"Ugh" I groaned and begun to walk to another seat away from them.
"Erikson Sean Indith!" My mother had screamed again, but angrier.
I thought to myself about what I did this time as I stood and begun to walk towards them. "What did I do this time?!" I asked as I reached her.
"Don't take my money to get food and then don't get food!" She squawked as she held her hand out for the money.
"Fine. Here take your stupid money." I wanted to say but instead said, "Here you go mother." And stormed off.

...

"Flight 34B to Seattle is now boarding"
I stood and stretched, reaching for my bag so that I could board the plane. As I walked towards the gate I checked my wrist watch. 10:42. It was supposed to leave at 8:00. As I reached the gate I had spoke up, "why was the flight delayed?"
"I don't know sir, now board the plane!" She had replied in an angry tone as if she had been standing all day.
"What's got you in a grumpy mood?" I mumbled to her as I stepped through the gate and on to the plane.
I had window seat but didn't use it. I was asleep listening to my usual playlist of punk-rock and indie. The second "Jumper" by Third Eye Blind started, I was out. Many hours later, the flight attendant came on the intercom waking me into a fright.
"Passengers! We are now preparing for landing."
Turning my phone off and opening the window I saw blackness. It was so dark you couldn't see three feet in front of you. The plane began to descend and my ears popped. When the aircraft hit the ground you could practically hear the children's minds going "break break break" and I took a deep breath in and released it.
"Welcome to Seattle." I said to myself worriedly and in amaze.
"Big city isn't it?" I heard a girl's voice say from the seat behind me.
"Yeah." I replied as I turned my head to see who it was.
When she saw my face she spoke up, " My names Liz. What's yours?"
"Erik. What are you doing in Seattle, Liz?" I spoke up as if I knew her, which I didn't.
"Oh, I live here! I was just visiting family, but I'm returning home now. And what about you?"
"Moving. My dad got a job here so we had to move."
"Oh really? What's your dad do?"
"He used to film movies but now he just does telemarketing."
"Hmm. Well do you know what school you will be going to, Erik?" She said as if she was interested in my life.
"Not yet. Heck, I don't even know where I will be moving to. Just know it's somewhere in Seattle." I replied. "Why do you care anyways, Liz?!" I said a bit too defensively.
"Because I think your cute." She said with slight happiness in her voice.
"I'm not cute." I said as I stood up and stretched.
"Well, you are to me! And I like you! Maybe we can get to know each other!"
I nodded and wrote down my email in my journal and ripped it out and handed it to her, knowing that my number would probably be changed soon. "Until tomorrow!"
"Until tomorrow." She said and I saw her cling the note to her chest and smile.
