I was sitting at my kitchen table, admiring the intricate patterns of the wood. The way wood can show how old it is through lines embedded in the flesh has always fascinated me.
I picked up my hot mug of coffee and took a sip, the steam hitting my forehead and making it slightly damp. Far to bitter for my liking. I was about to stand up and attempt to save it before I heard footsteps bounding down the stairs, echoing their way through the house.I smiled at the thought of her and felt the almost ticklish feeling that filled my chest whenever i saw her take over. It always put me in a good mood when Lynn woke up in a good mood. I got up from my chair, the chair itself scraping against the floor, to put some more sugar in my coffee to try and revive it. As I was stirring in the sugar, watching the white specs evaporate, I felt a pair of arms snake around my waist and lift me up from the spot I was standing.
'Lynn, put me down!' I giggled, liking the feeling of her arms around me.
In all seriousness, I didn't want her to put me down. I wanted her to hold me forever and keep me safe. It's all i've ever wanted. But this was some coffee that I was looking forward to.
'Good Morning Hayley,' Lynn said as she put me back down and pecked the side of my forehead near my temple.
I sorted my shirt, getting the creases out, and went back to my coffee. I tried to pretend that I didn't enjoy it but i couldn't hold it within myself.
'Hows my princess doing this morning?' She said softly into my ear. As I felt her breath hit my ear and upper neck, shivers ran up my spine.
She knew what she was doing and how it affected me. Sparks flew between us as she continued running her hands along my body.
Before I could answer her properly, I felt as if I was being dragged out of some world or dream. The feeling of pure bliss that Lynn's presence gave me was pulled away from me and I was dragged back to reality and a feeling of pure dread took back over.
I looked around me and saw the pastel blue school lockers and the buzz of young and old students walking and talking with their friends. The smell of walls that were painted a similar blue over summer filled my nostrils once more.
'Hayley, are you ok you zoned out for a second?'
I followed the voice and looked to my right, still in a sort of daze and saw a familiar pair of dark navy glasses with scratches where they were worn. Patrick.
'Pardon?' I asked, keeping my manners.
'You were zoned out for, like, two minutes,' He told me, not yet used to what was happening.
What worried me was the unneeded 'like' he added in the sentence.
'Oh.' I didn't realise it was that long. 'Yeah im fine, sorry.'
'You've been doing that a lot lately,' Only once or twice surely.
'I don't know, I haven't been myself lately,' I wasn't lying, just trying to make the reason behind it slightly unclear.
Patrick sighed before smirking at me. 'Lynn?'
I closed my locker and leaned my shoulder against it, facing him.
